About Shannon...

Who am I?

"I am a passionate, organised and welcoming individual who thrives on helping others improve and achieve their goals. I understand that everyone is unique and how people are motivated. I have a great attention to detail and have lots of creative ideas. My role as an Operations Manager requires me to be organised and meet deadlines, as well as being good at managing risks, especially in relation to safety in the Amazon transport network. As I manage a large region of individuals, I also need to be fair, honest and ethical to ensure each site in the region feels included in our goals. Outside of work, I enjoy sport and play netball."

What do I do?

"I am responsible for Transportation Field Operations and projects for Amazon fulfilment and sortation centres across the West of the UK. I oversee safety, quality, performance and customer experience for the yards. I am also accountable for developing relationships with the site operations/area managers and yard team, coaching and mentoring teams to ensure performance objectives are met to build a positive employee relation and deliver quality results."

How did I get here?

"I began my career following A Levels as a Higher Business Apprentice at GE Aviation, where I completed multiple rotations within supply chain such as sourcing fulfilment, operations and project management. During my apprenticeship I also achieved a first class honors in a degree in Leadership and Management, as well as a Chartered Manager status at distinction level. I then transition to Optimas OE Solutions in the role of International Inventory Optimisation Manager, responsible for overall International inventory levels and purchasing parameters, communicating inventory projections and drivers of variance to senior leadership. I led a team of 5 analysts responsible for Inventory Optimisation and setting necessary replenishment parameters to support the purchasing organisation, ensuring the product is available at the right place, right time and in the right quantity. Following this, I began my current role as Regional Operations Manager at Amazon!"

The life I live

"I love to stay active outside of work and particularly enjoy crossfit, netball, badminton and golf. I also like trying new things and during the COVID-19 pandemic I started my own small business selling pick and mix gifts where I generated a £2,000 profit in 4 months."

My typical day

"A typical day as a Regional Operations Manager involves reviewing operational performance from the previous day across my respective sites and identifying key trends of where we are not to target. Once trends are identified I work with each site to create an improvement strategy, working with multiple stakeholders to drive improvements and ultimately success. I also am heavily involved in new site launches within my region, ensuring a strong team are recruited and the yard design and infrastructure complies with Amazon standards. Currently the role is 60% virtual (i.e. working from home) and 40% traveling to sites."

My qualifications

"A-levels in Biology, Chemistry, PsychologyHigher Business Apprenticeship - Bachelors Degree in Leadership and Management at Work & Chartered Management Qualification"
