About Kelly...
Who am I?
"Investigator: When I first saw this type come up for me I didn’t think it matched but reading the description it very much fits with my personality and the way I like to work. I have a collaborative management style always trying to involve the right people to come to a logical solution to problems.Quality Controller: I identify this one less so, particularly as I don't see my self as a detail oriented person, but at the time, I really value the qualities listed.Trainer: The qualities listed under the Trainer type are ones that I feel I'm constantly striving to be and improve on as theses qualities in my opinion make a good leader."
What do I do?
"My team plan and execute installations of bulk cyrogenic tanks on customer sites. I work closely with my team members to make sure that our installation projects are going smoothly and listen to any issues they come across so that I can best support them. I'm also responsible for the allocation of new proposals and projects, and the hiring of new Project Engineers into the team. Although I don't directly run any of my own installation projects anymore, one of the most enjoyable and rewarding parts of my job is seeing a project completed to our customer's satisfaction. "
How did I get here?
"I really enjoyed Chemistry in high school. I remember asking my teacher what sort of things I could study at university relating to Chemistry. She simply stated: Chemistry teacher, Chemist or Chemical Engineering. I like the career opportunities and doors that a Chemical Engineering degree would open for me so I went for that. Through contacts at university I completed various work placements with Air Products in America. I really enjoyed these and as the company was happy with my performance during these placements I was fortunate to join Air Products on the graduate scheme. I completed assignments in various roles such as Product Engineering, Project Engineer and even Sales! Project Engineering was my favourite role so I joined my current team as Project Engineer in 2009. In 2013, I was offered my current role as a Project Team Lead which has been great in helping me to develop my leadership and people management skills."
The life I live
"In my spare time I love spending time with my family. I have two young boys who both show interest in engineering type subjects. They often ask about my job and like seeing photos of installations and sites that I've worked on. I also try to make sure I take care of myself by doing other simple things I enjoy, like meeting with friends, mindfulness meditations and staying active with spin class and walking."
My typical day
"My young sons think that all I do all day is sit at my computer and do lots of typing. This is partly true! A lot of my time is spent at the PC. I'm sometimes sending/replying to emails and sometimes I'm on phone calls or teleconferences. When time allows, I like going to customer sites, meeting with my team members and seeing the work being done. "
My qualifications
"Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. I joined Air Products after university on the Graduate Programme in America. On the programme I completed three assignments in various roles (Product Engineer, Project Engineer, Business Development Manager) before I started a permanent role as a Project Engineer. I was then fortunate to be offered my current role as a Project Engineering Team Lead responsible for a team of Project Engineers."
