About Sally...
Who am I?
"The personality types match me pretty much exactly! Coaching and training are things I have to do throughout my role to ensure everyone is confident in their roles and know the requirements of the job. "
What do I do?
"Very simply, my job is to make sure everything is done correctly! I work with the site team (engineers, project managers etc) to make sure that what we are building is done correctly - and the client gets what they asked for. Day to day this means I oversee the works on site, I attend meetings with the site team to discuss any issues, and work closely with the design team as well as the client. The part of my job I enjoy the most is when things go wrong and we have to work together to find a solution that everyone is happy with. Every project is different, and I get to be involved in all activities so no two days are the same!"
How did I get here?
"I was always interested in maths and was keen to be involved in engineering design so my industry was picked for me then! I went to University to study Civil Engineering, and began my role as a Site Engineer when I graduated! During my course, i spent time working in a design office and decided it wasnt for me.After two years working as an engineer on site, i transferred and joined the quality team - 4 years later i am now a quality manager looking after multiple large projects including ports, bridges and highways schemes!"
The life I live
"Outside of work I like to keep fit and enjoy walking, keeping fit and getting dressed up. I also volunteer with a charity group who take disabled and disadvantaged adults on holiday each year. After a busy few years I'm trying out some new hobbies including skateboarding, skipping and crafts!"
My typical day
"A typical week includes meetings with the site teams and client teams, carrying out inspections of paperwork and works out on site, preparing documents for handover. Everything I do is geared towards making sure the quality documents are kept up to date so that the handover of the project to the client goes well."
My qualifications
"A Levels in Maths, Project Design, FrenchUndergraduate degree in Civil Engineering BEng at Nottingham Trent UniversityPostgraduate degree in Construction Project Management MSc at Edinburgh Napier University (I did this distance learning whilst working full time - my advice would be that if you need a masters and can do one before you start working - do it then!)In 2022, I sat my Professional Review and became a Chartered Civil Engineer."
