About Jenni...

Who am I?

"Out of the three personality types in my results, I think I most strongly relate to the Quality Controller personality type. I believe I am fair, honest and ethical and have a natural sense of justice. I also like to challenge the way things have been done in the past. As a Developer, I always want to learn more about those methods and ask questions about why something is done that way and where improvements can be made. "

What do I do?

"My role is split into two parts: managing the Machinery Condition Monitoring programme for Europe and being responsible for a number of the UK plants as a Machinery Engineer. "

How did I get here?

"While I was studying for my GCSEs, one of my teachers put me forward for an Arkwright Engineering Scholarship. This is a scholarship awarded to students who are studying Engineering related subjects at A-Level to support them in their goal of being an Engineer in the future. I was awarded the scholarship after an exam and interview with a panel of Engineers. I think going through this process really reinforced that this was what I wanted to do as a career. When I was first looking at university degrees, I thought I was going to do Civil Engineering. However, when I visited a university open day, I spotted the chemical engineering stand next to the civil engineering one and was instantly intrigued. I was really enjoying chemistry and physics at A-Level and this allowed me to apply these subjects in an engineering field. As part of my degree, I completed an industrial placement with Air Products as a process engineer working on the design of new plants. I really enjoyed my placement as it helped me identify what I wanted to do after graduation. Fortunately, I was offered a position on their graduate scheme, so I came back after I finished my degree. As part of the graduate scheme, I completed year long assignments in Process Controls & Instrumentation, Operations Machinery and Process Efficiency. I really enjoyed my time in Operations Machinery, so when a position became available in the team I applied and was able to join the team in a permanent role. Since starting in this team, I was offered the opportunity to take ownership of the Condition Monitoring Programme for Europe. "

The life I live

"Outside of work, I really enjoying walking and making the most of the area I live in. I also purchased a property a couple of years ago and have enjoyed doing DIY and decorating. I have also spent a lot of time in my garden (especially during the pandemic!) and built a raised planter where I have been growing vegetables. I am also a member of a local board game group which has been a good opportunity to meet new people and discover new board games. "

My typical day

"Usually I am based in the office and a typical day will involve reviewing machinery data and trends and looking at any actions that need to be carried out by the local team. I am also the Machinery Engineer responsible for a number of plants in the UK, helping with planning and technical support with maintenance and troubleshooting. "
