About Brooke...
Who am I?
"A role like mine can be done with any combination of personality profiles. Whilst I'm all about motivating and inspiring others and looking at the strategy and where we take the business, I lead a team, and ensuring a balance of profiles across that team ensures that any of my weaker preferences are well represented so don't worry about matching your profile to mine!"
What do I do?
"I run a portfolio business that delivers critical defence capabilities to those operating on the front line, keeping their nations safe. My job is to understand the strategic market, distil this into strategies and plans and explain it to others. With a broad portfolio of programmes there is never a dull moment and there are always new problems to solve or opportunities to realise. I like to inspire others to continually challenge and find new ways of doing things to grow our business and make it a better place to work"
How did I get here?
"After my PhD, I worked in government developing policy. I then moved into industry, starting out in strategy, then moving into programme management, transformation and change management. I lead a few increasingly sizeable bids to win new business opportunities and then stayed on to deliver the largest of these. I had an opportunity to broaden out from large project management into business leadership which is my dream job, bringing together what I've learned in Strategy, Business Winning, Programme Management and Transformation as well as leading people. "
The life I live
"With a demanding job and two children I don't have much time to myself. I am now finding the time to support the local region as a non exec director of the Local Enterprise Partnership with a focus on skills development. I do run at the weekend to sort out all that is running through my head and pilates in the week. "
My typical day
"I get in early to work through emails but spend most of my time from 8am until 5pm in meetings as my role is to ensure that everyone knows what they're doing and has everything they need to do that effectively. Meetings range from individual conversations talking through priorities and challenges, to groups of people coming together to work through challenges. I spend a fair amount of time reviewing the progress that we're making in the business from bids to programmes, to finances, to people. "
My qualifications
"A levels Maths, Further Maths, Physics and GermanBSc 1st class Hons PhysicsDPHil Physiology"
