About Anne...
Who am I?
"The personality types that my quiz shown were very close to my own personality and the skills shown are very important and I use them every day in my work.
Coach: I work with lots of people and I am friendly. My job involves problem solving and helping the team with suggestions about overcoming challenges.
Influencer: My job is very much about looking at lots of different points of information and then presenting them to the team in a simple and easy to understand format - I have to be very thorough and look at lots of detail. I then need to encourage people to follow the plan and I need leadership qualities for this.
Trainer: I understand how everyone learns differently and sometimes have to present information in different ways for different people to learn. I listen to all the team's ideas and then organise everyone's idea's in a simple way that everybody understand how how the pieces fit together. I then share this with the team. "
What do I do?
"I create the programme for the construction project which is a big to-do list for the team to ensure we can build our projects in time and for the right amount of money. I take every item that needs to be done and think about how long it will take to do, what order it should be done in and what people do we need to build it in time. "
How did I get here?
"I have worked in a different Industry after school - in hospitality (hotels and bars). I then decided to go back to college and retrained in Construction Management - a lot of the people skills I learned in my previous work has been very useful in my work in Construction.
I have worked while studying to reach the job I am in now. I have done some onsite work as an Assistant Site Manager and some design Management work as an Assistant Design Coordinator. These roles have prepared me very well for the job I do now."
The life I live
"In my spare time I volunteer with young professionals and young people so that they can have a career they enjoy, like I do.
At home, I have a cat, Smokey and my husband. I enjoy reading and doing some exercise cycling classes. I also enjoy studying and learning. "
My typical day
"I usually do some emails - I look at drawings and construction information and talk to the people to decide how we will build the construction project. I will then use computer software to make the big list (programme) and some times I have to visit sites to see if we are keeping up with the plan. I then have to write about how well we are keeping to plan - is it good? Do we need to think about anything else?
I really enjoy my job as each day can be very different and I get to work with many different people, across lots of different jobs. "
My qualifications
"I have a BSc (Hons) in Construction Project Management and I working towards my MSc in Quality Management. I am also working towards becoming a chartered professional so I have industry recognition of my abilities. "
