About Clover...

Who am I?

"The personality types of Coach, Manager and Trainer match well with me. I pride myself on understanding what people want and how to get them what they need, and have experience in working with a wide range of people. I take enormous pride in exceeding expectations and do this by really listening to others. I also consider myself to be a great problem solver."

What do I do?

"I really enjoy understanding the heart of the problem and working with the right people to find solutions. I am a trusted person in the team and am known to be able to help solve complex issues that span across different teams and functions of the Co-op. I work across the whole Technology team and interface with lots of people to understand processes, and ensure that everyone plays their part on delivering to my stakeholders. I'm always looking at how we can improve things. I work with the business to create a strategy and deliver the Technology solution that will ultimately make the Co-op more profitable. The starting salary for the Technology BP role is £48,000. There are lots of different levels of Business Partner so the salary is reflective of the complexity of the relationships you hold."

How did I get here?

"I have had lots of jobs over the years since I graduated and I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up! I travelled and worked after leaving University across Europe in holiday resorts and also took the opportunity to be a teacher in South Korea for a year too. I came back to the UK and worked for the Royal Mail as an operational manager for 6 years, taking on lots of different projects. During my time there I gained additional qualifications in Project Management and Leadership. I loved working for a business who supported my development and there was always the opportunity to apply what I had learned on the job.I left the Royal Mail and spent some time working on short term contracts in different organisations across Manchester before joining the Co-op. The time I have spent working in public and private sector businesses have helped me to understand what I most enjoy doing and the type of culture I enjoy working in. I've been at the Co-op since 2016 and have worked in Funeralcare as a HR Business Partner, the Property team as a Portfolio Manager (basically making sure all the projects get delivered), and now I am a Technology Business Partner. Having lots of experience in different businesses has helped to get me to where I am today as I can use all of my experience to translate business requirements to the technical teams and translate technical and complex information back out to the business."

The life I live

"I am a qualified yoga teacher so I enjoy preparing and teaching classes in a Community Centre in South Manchester as a volunteer. I have an allotment and really enjoy spending time in the fresh air, being active and learning from my allotment neighbours what to plant and when."

My typical day

"I balance my working life from home and in our Head Office when a face to face meeting is required. I have regular catch ups with my stakeholders and different project teams who are delivering work for my stakeholders to understand if there are any problems I need to communicate out to the business. The IT Service Desk is based in India so I do spend time talking to the supplier who deliver this service for the business areas I partner to address any quality issues and understand any themes or trends coming into the Service Desk that require further analysis and then provide this information back to the business areas. My days are really varied - which I love! I work between the technical teams and the business areas to ensure that the IT service is great, the IT team are supportive of the projects currently underway and work with the business to understand their future strategy so the right technology solution is used to help realise the goals."

My qualifications

"I took A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics in Doncaster. I came to Manchester University to study a Biology Degree. I have completed a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management while working at the Royal Mail. I have recently applied for the Degree Apprenticeship in Retail Management. As a Business Partner it's really important that I understand the Business and the future requirements so I can use the right Technology to solve real business problems and help the business explore new solutions. I've taken a lot of sideways moves to get to where I am now. I have spent my time working in large organisations like the Royal Mail, Barclays and the Co-op supporting the business to deliver lots of different change programmes and projects. My skills are in understanding what the issues are and solving them collaboratively with the technical experts. "
