About Poppy...
Who am I?
"Do not resign yourself to the personality type from a quiz, you know yourself better than anyone! If I had to define myself with a few key words, I'd say hard-working, passionate, and eager to learn. These characteristics can be applied literally any job you can think of. The specifics of your passion is what narrows down what pathway you should follow. What are you passionate about? What are you good at? What do you get satisfaction out of? You'll definitely get more enjoyment out of your job if it's something you love. "
What do I do?
"I am a level 3 apprentice engineer at JCB Agriculture working predominantly with the JCB Fastrac, a unique and market leading high speed tractor, with unrivalled comfort and safety. In the next few months I am due to complete my apprenticeship, and enrol on a degree as a Sales Executive, whilst progressing to the job role of a technical product specialist.Working in the World Headquarters of a global business, means I act as a link between sales and engineering. We often receive requests from different countries for bespoke additions to machines. Such as reverse fans for the hot and dusty regions, or rear deck mounted arm mowers for utility applicationsI also deal with general sales analysis of our core agricultural machines - telescopic wheeled loading shovels, wheeled loading shovels, telehandlers, tractors, and Skid Steers. This involves detailed market analysis of sales of our competitors globally, identify spots in the market that we could excel in, and areas that we need to improve. I also get involved with shows and events to talk direct to farmers and other customers about the benefits of purchasing one of our machines."
How did I get here?
"I completed my GCSEs, a year of AS-Levels, and a level 3 extended diploma in agriculture at Kingston Maurward College in Dorset. I then applied for an apprenticeship within JCB at an agricultural show local to home, and am now near completing an apprenticeship in advance manufacturing engineering and technical support."
The life I live
"Outside of work I am a member of Marshwood Vale Young Farmers in Dorset and own a vintage tractor that I am restoring with my Father. I have been bought up around machinery all my life, and enjoy being outside with my family. I am one of seven children, so I am always busy!"
My typical day
"On a typical day, I spend a large amount of time undertaking detailed market analysis and presenting my findings to various members of the team. I also get involved in training, and have recently delivered a technical training presentation to our Global Ag team on a new feature of the JCB Fastrac.I am a link between sales and engineering, so often arrange activities between the two for endurance or test and feedback of new designs."
