About Veronica...

Who am I?

"My test results are \"Explorer\", \"Investigator\" and \"Quality Controller\". I feel like all three results match my personality pretty well.I am an Explorer because I am super curious about everything around me and I crave information all the time. I spend a lot of time reading about diverse topics. Every time I hear about a word or a concept I am not familiar with I look it up and try to understand it. I am also a very competitive person who loses track of time every time I am trying to find a solution to a problem or a puzzle.I am an Investigator because I feel like I am pretty good at understanding what is happening around me and I love to sort out things in a logical and practical manner. I always put myself in somebody else's shoes to try to understand him/her better. Finally, I am a Quality Controller because I like things to be done in the best way possible. Despite being very detail oriented, I like to optimize processes and I often think about the big picture during my thought process.I think all these qualities help me in my job as a Software Engineer as in my work I have to problem solve everyday and I have to be aware of how different building blocks interact with each other. I also need to be able to communicate and interact with people on a daily-basis and being curious about people and new technologies allows me to grow not only as a professional but also as an individual."

What do I do?

"I work as a Software Engineer at Bloomberg L.P a financial, software, data, and media company. My company's main goal is to offer tools to access a lot of data and information regarding the world and the current financial market. The idea is to allow people to have as much information as possible to make informed decisions and to be transparent about the source of the data. In particular, as a Software Engineer I work in a small team to help develop and maintain part of Bloomberg's Terminal, a computer application that allows people to access real-time financial information and much more. The thing I enjoy the most about my job is the ability to impact a lot of people and to be able to give back to the community because of Bloomberg's commitment to philanthropy and volunteering opportunities. "

How did I get here?

"To get where I am I went through quite an interesting journey. I was born in Italy, from a small town near Turin. When I turned 16 I decided to leave my home country and do an exchange year program. I chose to study in the USA because I wanted to travel and learn about a new culture. So at 17 I left my family and friends and lived an amazing adventure in Indiana, USA. That year was not only a fun time but it allowed me to grow a lot as a person, I improved my English, I became more independent and I learned how to adapt and respect other cultures. After my year abroad, I went back to Italy to finish high-school and to get my diploma. While on my last year of HS I decided to continue my education in the USA and I got a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering with a minor in Mathematics. After finishing my education I went back to Italy and I got my first job in Milan as a Software Developer. At my first job I got to use a programming language called Java and I learned how to interact and work with my colleagues. I wanted to make a step forward in my career path so I looked for opportunities in Switzerland. After about a year at a small start-up, I got an offer from Bloomberg and I happily accepted it."

The life I live

"In my spare time I enjoy playing videogames and learning about new things either by reading or watching Youtube videos. I also enjoy travelling a lot and eating different types of food. I love going to escape rooms, I find them a very interesting ways of spending time with friends while solving puzzles all together!"

My typical day

"I would say I spend most of my day at work at my computer either writing code or reading and learning about how to write code or in meetings with other members of my team and other teams. In the mornings I check my email inbox and my appointment schedule. "

My qualifications

"Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Minor in Mathematics"
