About Chelsea...

Who am I?

"My personality types from the quiz are: Coach, Influencer and Quality Controller. All of these are really important to my values inside and outside of work. I have a lot of responsibility for a team of people, so it is important to motivate them to all work towards the same goal, and the best way to do that is to coach team members individually and as the full team. I have a lot of influence in how the team feel and ways to solve problems, so I influence in the best and most motivational way that I can. Quality is something that's very important to my job, I need to know where things aren't going as well as they should be and help out in those areas to make sure we are doing great work, within the timelines, but without risking the quality of the work."

What do I do?

"As a project manager, a lot of my work is making sure a project is sticking to it's deadlines (or it needs to have a good reason if not!) and sticking to the budget we have been given. It is all one big balancing act of the team's and my combined work and keeping the business and our customers happy. I interact a lot with people in this job, and help find the areas where the project is struggling, and I love problem solving to make sure the team remain as motivated and happy as possible in their jobs, working towards our main goals. As a graduate, I have started on £28k per year."

How did I get here?

"I decided I wanted to be in STEM, but wasn't sure where and I found that the best way to be a well rounded engineer was to study mechanical engineering as in the course it also covers a lot of the other types of engineering as well. I started to apply for placements and found I was most successful in project management interviews because I had lead a lot of the projects at university. I decided to take a year out of university to take on the placement of a lifetime, working for Mercedes Formula 1! I learnt from the World Championship winning team what great teamwork and project management looks like, and that's where I am today - and now also a World Champion myself as I was part of the celebrations for the teams fifth championship."

The life I live

"I really love both girly and tomboy stuff - there is no category I think I would put myself in! I love dressing up nicely and going for catch up's with my close friends, but I also equally love getting my uniform on to go for a round of golf! It is true - a girl can absolutely be and do both!! I love to read and get lost in a new world that I've not visited before, and I really enjoy singing. It is my biggest passion and the way I can be creative when I think of my own creating of music to play or sing."

My typical day

"I do a LOT of running around... but in the best way (believe me, I hate running!). It is never a dull day for me as I am chasing something new, maybe it's a delivery into the business, or a piece of paper to be signed by someone important, or it could just be making sure the team are all in the right place at the right time... but no day, absolutely none, is the same as the last. There might be the same daily meetings, but they always lead to something different. So if you are looking for a job that is varied and where you won't be replying to emails all day, every day (even though there is a bit of that), then I think project management might be for you!"

My qualifications

"I took A-Levels in Physics, Maths and Music and passed them with the grades to get into Newcastle University.I now have an MEng (Masters of Engineering) in Mechanical Engineering, in which I graduated with a 2:1."
