About Shivani...

Who am I?

"I think the personality types match me quite well and help me to carry out my job to a high standard. The communicator and trainer personality types probably fit in the best with my role, as the work I do can involve a lot of detail which needs reviewing, and I need to be able to explain my results to clients in a simple way. In addition they apply to my client relations where I need to understand what the client wants to achieve and then guide my work to solve the problem they present. Finally, for the explorer personality type, I love learning new things and taking on new challenges which is why I love working for a consultancy as every project I do is different and I am constantly learning new things."

What do I do?

"As a flow assurance engineer, my team's job is to see if oil or gas will successfully travel through a pipeline or if it’ll get stuck. To do this, we look at oil/gas characteristics (e.g. how heavy the oil is or how sticky it is) and determine whether the oil or gas will be able to travel through. I like that I have the chance to work independently as well as with other teams to deliver results to the client."

How did I get here?

"I studied Maths, Biology and Chemistry at A-Level which guided me to a degree in Chemical Engineering at Aston University. After my second year at university, I did a placement year in a large pharmaceutical company. After my undergraduate degree, I carried out a masters in Advanced Chemical Engineering at UCL before securing my current role as a Graduate Flow Assurance Engineer at Xodus Group."

The life I live

"In my spare time I like spending time with my friends, relaxing and travelling to different parts of the world!"

My typical day

"My job is office based so I spend most of my day at my desk. To carry out my work I use modelling software to create the pipeline of interest and then run different tests on it until we have results to deliver to the client. I also attend internal meetings with my team/department as well as client meetings to give them updates on how the project is going and the results we have got so far. Once the project has been completed, we provide a written report on our findings so that our clients can make an informed decision on how they will move forward in their design of the oil/gas pipelines.
