About Zineb...
Who am I?
"I am a girl coming from a small beach town in Morocco who decided to leave the comfort of a beach chair, break stereotypes to shape her path to Software Engineering. My work brings new challenges everyday and some of them are not very common so it requires lot of gymnastic and creative thinking. I am a problem solver, I like working with a team to get things done. I enjoy giving talks and sharing my knowledge in a field that is constantly changing. My influencer side also manifests in trying to be a role model to other girls and help them shape their path with confidence"
What do I do?
"I work as a software engineer in a team called MARS (Multi Asset Risk System). Our product provides financial analytics that help clients understand their risk in the market. I work full-stack which means from designing the initial product to its release to clients. Transforming ideas into a concrete product that will help people in their daily life brings me a sense of fulfillment. What I enjoy the most about my work is that no day is similar to the previous one. Everyday is a new challenge, it never gets boring."
How did I get here?
"After graduating from High School in Morocco, I moved to France to pursue a Masters in Software Engineering. Unlike the UK, the 2 first years we study all subjects regardless of what speciality we want and only in the third year I started learning programming. I was concerned that 3 years wouldn't be enough especially that I was one of the few in my class that has not done any programming before. It was difficult in the 2 first years as I did not have enough background knowledge to follow with my class, but with hard work and lot of support from my tutor I was able to get the best grades in my last year and get accepted in my dream job. "
The life I live
"I enjoy dancing in my spare. Dancing is a way for me to release stress and express myself. The thing very few people know is I am part-time Makeup Artist. Makeup Artist is a way for me to be creative and has helped me grow a strong and supportive group. Lately I have found out that I can reach out to more girls from my social media and encourage them to STEM by breaking the women in engineering stereotypes."
My typical day
"After my coffee, I start my morning going over my emails to see updates from my team and the company then I quickly go over our ticketing system making sure all our client requests are running fine. Around 10am we have our team daily standup which is a short meeting where we give updates about the tasks we are working on. The rest of my days is a split between writing code, reviewing my colleagues code and meetings either with engineers for design discussions or with our product to discuss business opportunities."
My qualifications
"Master's in Computer Science"
