About Maria...

Who am I?

"I'm a 20 something year old person that loves trying new things, from new jobs to new sports and new places to visit. I'm extremely active in my person life and there is nothing than i want more that being able to say that I travelled the whole world when I grow old and wrinkly and enjoy every aspect of this life. I'm also an animal lover, but nothing can beat the love I have for dogs since I grew up with so many dogs in my house! "

What do I do?

"My Job title is Business Analyst and I work in the Food and Beverage industry! I analyse our market's sales and orders and support my colleagues and team in doing their work. Every few months i work on different projects in Europe and might end up working with different teams as well. Our main goal in the Food and Beverage industry, is to make sure everything that people consume is safe to drink or eat and that requires a lot of work behind the scenes. I visit customers in their manufacturing plants from time to time and I get to experience the full impact of my work which is great. "

How did I get here?

"When I was 15 my goal was to become an aeronautical engineer and designer but once i finished my studies, that didn't hold my interest anymore. It's strange for a woman to do this degree/work as it's mainly populated by men but that didn't stop me - it actually made me want to do it even more. Every industry needs both men and women to succeed and there isn't a job that you can't do. When I finished my degree, I started applying for roles in my home country and the UK and I got offered the position of Technical Inside Sales. This means that I would support sales people to do their job by being in the office, speaking with customers and sending them prices for the products they wish to purchase. After 3 years in an Inside Sales position I moved to being a Business Analyst in the same company which is something that I really enjoy! Being a Business Analyst is a very versatile role and the skills that you gain doesn't tie you to one company or one industry - you can move around until you find the best company for you. "

The life I live

"After work I love getting together with my friends to either hang out in a house or restaurant or work out. I like working out but not alone so I either go jogging (a bit hard when it's winter and it's cold!), do boxing and I even joined a hot yoga group quite recently :) If i have more than 2 spare hours in a day, I will find a new recipe to cook, not food just sweets.. I enjoy cooking cakes and biscuits so if i wasn't a business analyst I would be a baker. When I'm home (I'm originally from Greece) I spend a great deal of time training and playing with my parents' dog. He's a German shepherd and my best friend. I split my time between travelling in Greece for 3 weeks/year and travelling to new countries 2-3 times per year. "

My typical day

"Everyday I wake up at 7 or 8am and spend time on my phone, either checking social media or reading a book. This is my favorite time of the day because not everyone is awake at 7am and I can spend some time in quiet. I will turn on my work laptop around 8:30 or 9am and check my emails and reply to all of them. Most days I will be invited in meetings, either through Microsoft teams or face to face meetings (pre-COVID) and talk about work matters with other customers or my colleagues. I work a lot with Excel so after any meetings, I end up opening up an Excel and continuing working on a project at work. My projects change a lot so it's like having different courses at school and doing something different every two hours."

My qualifications

"I have a Bachelor's (BEng) in Aeronautical Engineering and I recently completed an MBE with Harvard University that focused on Economics, Accounting and Business Analytics. If you end up doing and engineering degree and want to learn more about economics and business, the Harvard degree I completed is excellent. "
