About Tay...

Who am I?

"I feel like I match the personality types that I got in the quiz. I got coach, influencer and quality controller. I feel like I like to take charge of situations and help people improve themselves and help them along the way with this. I enjoy explaining and teaching things to people that i am passionate about. I want to influence people to do engineering jobs because it would make me feel proud that other females have interest in something that is currently a very male heavy trade. It would make me feel empowered to know that i have encouraged other women to join this trade and id like to think they would too feel empowered. With reference to quality controller, i feel like this doesn't match me as much as the other roles. I am not always wanting or checking everything for the quality. This is because if i have completed a job and i know i have done it to the best of my ability so I don't feel the need to assure the quality."

What do I do?

"The thing I enjoy most about my job is the environment i work in. I work with a really good team of people who are always willing to help each other and get the best out of each other. I also love how challenging it is sometimes but the feeling after you figure it out is the best! The starting salary for my role is £20,400. This then increases when you get to your first posting. There are lots of other benefits due to being in the RAF so this includes free gym, cheap accommodation, cheaper food and the social side of it too. I fix computers; hardware and software. I make sites for people and digitally optimise their forms and make their jobs easier. "

How did I get here?

"Initially I wanted to be an English teacher. However I thought I can always do that later on in life, I wanted a career that would challenge me and shock people when I told them what I do. This is why I chose to be an ICT Tech in the RAF. I left sixth form after I did my AS levels as I wasn't enjoying my time there. I worked in M&S for a few months and then joined the RAF in January 2019. I haven't looked back since. I did 10 weeks basic training at RAF Halton and then wen to RAF Cosford to complete my 9 month trade training for my role. It was a challenge for me as I have never done anything to do with IT before this. However i really enjoyed the training and felt a sense of achievement when my 9 months were complete."

The life I live

"In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym and doing weights. I love reading- books about science and how things work are my favourite. As well as this I enjoy spending time with my family and friends; going shopping, eating tasty food and just being social in general. Netflix is also one of my favourite things to do as it can be nice to unwind and chill out. I'll put a film on and do my skincare routine with a cup of green tea."

My typical day

"My typical day starts at 0730 and I walk to work which is nice and wakes me up. It sets me on the right track for my day. I get to my office and check my emails, which I reply to and do any requests I receive in them. I make SharePoint sites for people to make their jobs easier. I also can fix hardware and software which is fun. As well as this I do user permissions for people and alter websites and get ideas off other stations to improve ours. Also, we have lots of projects on which include using power automate and coding which is something i find very challenging but the end result is very satisfying."
