"My 9 to 5 job is an IT Consultant specialising in Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Power Platform. It is a client-facing job, meaning you are not only working with your colleagues in your company but also communicating with your client. Our daily job is quite different, depending on the project. We run workshops with the client to let them tell us what they need to achieve in the new system - we call it requirement gathering. We write documents on system performance, solution design etc. We demonstrate the system functionalities. We customise and configure the Microsoft Dynamics 365 systems.One of my favourite things about working as a consultant is the diversity of projects. Different clients have a various requirement. We got the chance to know about what other people do in their daily job, that's interesting to me.I also like the challenge in this job. "I actually did a lot of part-time jobs and internships before I found this full-time job as an IT consultant. I joined my company as a Graduate Consultant after I graduated from UCL Digital Humanities Programme in 2016, and now I'm still working in the same company as a Senior Consultant.My first part-time job is teaching Mandarin. As I am a native Mandarin speaker, this idea of teaching people speaking Mandarin is always in my head. I was very lucky to find my first student, who was really keen to learn. After that, I was much more confident in explaining things.Then I started another teaching type of job in a middle school to help students understand journalism as I was studying Journalism at that time. That was where I discovered the joy of working with students. But on the other hand, I knew it wasn't realistic for me to become a full-time teacher as in the certifications and background. Meanwhile, I was doing another part-time job to write articles for an organisation sponsoring creative and technology projects. I was very impressed by artificial intelligence, virtual reality these new terms, that when I started to think to do a Master degree in Digital Humanities.During the study in Digital Humanities, I realised that the humanities side of technology is also critical. For example, how can we increase the user adoption for new software, how to automate a process to improve business efficiency, how to be a bridge between developers and users. So that's why I choose to be an IT consultant."

Everybody join the call in the morning to give an update on what you did yesterday, what are you planning to do today and are there any blockers you need to raise. In this way, team members are on the same page.9:30 to 10:45 am Project workI am a morning person so that I will use the morning for the most challenging task - designing solutions. When we get the requirement from the client for their system, it usually's talking about what they want to achieve. So our job is to understand and design how to achieve using Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Power Platform technology. 10:45 am Virtual Coffee CatchupWhen you work from home, you naturally miss the social connections that happened in the physical office before. So we set up the virtual coffee catchup with colleagues to talk. 11:00 to 12:30 Project work Configuring the systems based on the design 12:30 to 1:30 pm LunchtimeI cook a lot; it's my way to relax. 1:30 to 2:30 pm Project workDocumentation is also one of the big parts of my job. It's important to write down the changes you made, and why you did so, for future reference and client's benefits. So I spend some time writing down the solution design and the configuration guide.2:30 to 3:30 pm Playback Playback means you demonstrate the system functionalities to the client. You are not only required to build the features but also explain to users how to use it. Sometimes, the users will give feedback, and then you make adjustments before it's too late. 3:30 to 3:45 pm Tea break 3:45 to 5:15 Project work5:30 pm FinishBefore logging off, I always check our internal resource calendar to see what project I should be working on the next day because being a consultant means you potentially need to work on different projects."
