About Raeesah...

Who am I?

"I feel the personality types I was matched with - Coach, Influencer and Quality Controller describe me and my job role very accurately!I am definitely a 'coach' at work, as I have to work with people from a range of different teams, different companies and different skill sets. You have to be able to listen when others are speaking, especially in meetings. Being friendly is very important as you have to build professional relationships with everyone you meet - you never know who you might work with in the future.Influencer is another great way to describe the kind of person I have to be on a daily basis. It is really important to listen to everyone's point of view and be able to work independently and in teams. Sometimes you have to lead groups of people and this can be very rewarding when you achieve your goals as a team.Quality Controller is what I have to be every time I am completing a piece of work. As a Data Analyst I always have to be good with detail and ensure that all of my work is detailed, accurate and meets the required standards."

What do I do?

"- My job involves doing things such as:- creating reports, dashboards, analysing data, using mathematics and statistics, giving presentations, working independently and in teams.- The outcomes of my work are:- deciding which flight routes British Airways will fly to, deciding whether British Airways' Twitter account is being used correctly, forecasting revenue for flight routes, improving efficiency of projects, controlling cabin crew flight hours.- What I enjoy most about my job is that there are so many different things happening at once in the airline and there are so many different departments. This means that the data analysis tasks I am working on could be using a whole range of different data, from cabin crew flight hours to engineering works and sales data. It is always changing.- The starting salary for a Data Analyst at British Airways is £28,000 and this increases as you gain more years of experience."

How did I get here?

"My route to becoming a Data Analyst has been through a Data Analyst Apprenticeship. This was a 2 year apprenticeship, which I have gained 3 qualifications in Data Science, Data Analysis Concepts and a Level 4 Data Analyst Apprenticeship. What inspired me was reading and seeing stories of women in science, this gave me the belief that I could excel in this field. Also, my family members encouraged me that I can be great and successful in anything I put my mind to and that just because there are not many female Data Analysts, does not mean I can't be one!"

The life I live

"In my spare time I love doing athletics - it keeps you healthy and you feel great afterwards!I also love to try new foods from different cultures and cuisines.I love to travel around the world and visit countries I've never been to - next on my list are Australia and the USA!"

My typical day

"After having a good breakfast at the canteen, I start my day checking emails. Once I've cleared my inbox I check my calendar and prepare for any upcoming meetings I have for today. Then I'm ready to continue with any projects I'm working on.Usually in my projects this will involve getting the data, cleansing it and then creating reports and dashboards. I might also need to ask my colleagues sitting around me questions and advice, depending on the project I'm working on. After attending any meetings, it usually reaches lunchtime and I go off to the canteen for lunch. After lunch I continue to work at my desk on projects, meetings and will re-check my inbox for any important emails.
