About Isabella...
Who am I?
"The qualities of \"Influencer\" fit very well with the work I do because I need to find and review lots of scientific information and also be very attentive to details; the \"Manager\" type fit because I have to plan the work of my team so it is importan being very organised. The \"Quality Controller\" fit since I have to work on my own but also in a team and I am good at it. I believe I am a mix of all the three personalities I got with the test!"
What do I do?
"My work as Geologist and Lead Geoscience data analyst varies depending on the project I am working on. As lead geoscience data analyst I am responsible of supervising a small analysts team collecting oil and gas fields data; I then use the data to develop predictive algorithms, basically equations that can help our clients to forecast hydrocarbons fields behaviour. As Geologist I do different geological analysis of the rocks containing hydrocarbons called reservoirs of oil and gas fields operated by our clients. The best part of working for a small consultancy company is that you can develop a variety of skills since you work on different projects and you can also do things outside of your field of speciality (i.e. I support the Business Development team managing the Company social media pages even if I don’t have a degree in marketing). The worst part is that it is difficult to predict which kind of work you will doing since it depends on what the clients need; thus, it is complicated to follow a continuous skills development plan. "
How did I get here?
"My science primary school teacher inspired me a lot when I was young; she did a science experiment a week, they were so fun and amazing! However, the experiments weren’t only a good fun, she really encouraged me and my then classmates to reflect about what we were seeing and give our explanations about the phenomena. She noticed I was really interested and engaged during these experiments, so she gave me some extra science books for kids to read; she really helped me to develop my curiosity and grow my passion for science. I then decided to attend a scientific high school and to study Geology at university."
The life I live
"I really love travelling and reading! I also enjoy dancing (especially Latin american dances), cooking, going for coffee with friends and going to the gym."
My typical day
"I don’t use any specific equipment only my laptop in my day-to-day work. I generally spend less than an hour replying to e-mails then I start to work on our company software or external software depending on the project I am working on. At the moment I am working with a Geographic Information Software trying to build up a water depth model for Oil and Gas fields located around the world; it is very important data that our clients can use in their field studies."
My qualifications
"I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology (Italy) and a dual Master of Science (UK & Italy) specialisation in geo-resources management (water, coal, Oil and Gas, minerals..). I decided to study Geology because I have been always fascinated by natural phenomena and then I became very passionate about Energy production; that’s why I decided to specialise in geo-resources management. After completing my master I started to work as Graduate Geologist for the company I currently work for, climbing the career ladder up since then."
