About Ruth...

Who am I?

"I'm a motivated and driven individual. The personaity types of influencer and campaigner strongly match in with my current role and personality. "

What do I do?

"My role working in regulatory affairs for healthcare involves maintaining licences for our medicial products in each country - without these we couldn't sell any medicines! The role does involve some legal type work as a result of the constantly changing medicinal regulations and requirements. My role is crucial to ensuring compliance for my portfolio of products. My role involves collaborating with other colleagues and individuals globally, understanding the individual requirements of each country and overseeing projects/submissions to each country. Although working with some countries can sometimes be more challenging than others, this is one of the part of my roles which I really enjoy. As I have a portfoilio of products, when regulatory milestones occur, such as a renewal, I then lead these projects, working withj a range of other departments. Every country, circumstance and medicinal product is slightly different. It is this variety and constantly ongoing development of transferable skills which I find most rewarding. "

How did I get here?

"Whilst studying for my BSc Biomedicine, I was trying to decide between further study in medicine and the pharmacetical industry. At the end of the first year, I had an internship in Regulatory Affairs and Global labelling at Bayer, and I was hooked - the pharmaceutical industry had captured my interest completely.I explored other environments including research, and worked for a Cancer Research laboratory in Singapore during the summer of my second year. I came away from this experience knowing that I much more enjoyed using the skills which I had started developing within my first internship. I started my role at Procter & Gamble after graduating. "

The life I live

"I love the outdoors and you'll often find me walking, hiking or running. especially with my dog (although she mainly pulls me along when she sees a squirrel)! I enjoy spending time with family & friends, reading and practicing my language skills."

My typical day

"On my typical work day I arrive around 9am (traffic depending). I'll get a coffee with some colleagues and catch up on ongoing work before sitting down at my desk. Throughout the morning, I'll go through my emails and balance these with urgent meetings and projects. My role involves collaborating with many people globally so I have to balance the time differences and this often means urgent international work in the morning. Lunchtime involves a walk and a complete break from the office. In the afternoon, I will be again back at work in a desk-based setting, working on ongoing projects. "

My qualifications

"Having grown up in several countries, I didn't take any GCSEs and just have a foreign transcript.. A levels (I completed the International baccalaureate (IB)): 36 pointsSubjects: -Biology-Chemistry-Maths-Economics-German-EnglishThen I headed to the University of East Anglia (UEA) and completed a B.Sc Biomedicine (Hons)."
