About Rebekah...

Who am I?

"I am an independent, enthusiastic and results-driven person and a lot of my work centres around coaching and supporting production staff and managers and running projects either as lead or as part of a team. I enjoy helping others and am extremely confident in presenting and delivering key information and ideas. I am a confident and natural leader but also thoroughly enjoy getting stuck in to practical work to support my teams. "

What do I do?

"I am currently on the Plant graduate scheme at Airbus in Broughton where I rotate work placement every 3 months to give me both insight and experience into the business across differing roles before settling into a final role. A lot of my work is centered around supporting the production of Airbus aircraft wings, but I will also be experiencing roles that support the wider Airbus business, other production plants and projects away from manufacturing. I enjoy working in and around production so this is where I hope to end up at the end of my graduate development scheme but I am constantly seeking new and unique opportunities that will develop me both professionally and personally."

How did I get here?

"I am a firm believer in two things: 1) Everything happens for a reason, and 2) Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. I have always known a career working with aircraft was for me. I have known this ever since I was a little girl - owed to a deep family history of working in aviation. I followed this family history and my own ambition, not fully knowing where I would or should fit into the industry, and chose a degree in Aviation Management at Coventry University including a placement year. This degree taught me the ins and outs of the aviation world, everything from maintenance and airport operations, to human factors and the supply chain. The world of aviation was huge and I realised the world truly was my oyster in terms of future career prospects. I undertook work experience alongside my dad in his aircraft maintenance role and realised I enjoyed the ‘dirty’ side of aviation, seeing aircraft in their rawest form and enjoyed the intensity and pressure to get aircraft into the air. Not knowing what to expect, and intrigued by my previous experience, I applied for an internship in manufacturing support at Airbus and after a successful interview, undertook a 1 year placement. I was extremely nervous – manufacturing was something I didn’t know much about and I would be out of my comfort zone completely. From the get go, I fell in love with the manufacturing environment. I was even fortunate enough to work on the much adored A380 programme, an experience I will always hold close to my heart. Airbus proved to have a bit of everything for me – high level meetings, opportunities to lead and work on industrial projects, supporting the creation of an integral product to the industry and most importantly, the chance to work in a company where no two days would ever be the same. After a successful placement year with Airbus, I was fortunate enough to be invited back to join the business as a graduate, an offer which I immediately said yes to. That brings me to where I am today, in my first year of the Plant scheme, saying yes to any exciting opportunities that come my way and seeing where the scheme takes me next."

The life I live

"Unsurprisingly, I am a bit of an aviation geek (Avigeek!) in my spare time... I love reading up and constantly learning about my industry and take any opportunity to get involved with aviation activities outside of work. I have also been known to go planespotting on occassion! I am also a big fan of weightlifting, football and fitness. I even play for the Airbus Ladies football team! (Unrelated to the business but sponsored by them! Our nickname is the 'Wingmakers'!) Once upon a time, I thought it was bad to like 'male' things such as aviation and football but actually its what makes me, me! Don't give in to stereotypes and if you want to do something that is out of the norm then do it! I'll be playing football with my long eyelashes and nails for a little while longer yet..."

My typical day

"Every day is different at Airbus! (Plus, my day depends on what placement I am currently in.). A lot of my work involves getting in and around the shop floor and supporting production managers with our various tools to ensure production happens smoothly. A portion of my week will always consist of a review of my personal goals for that week to ensure I am on track to complete any actions and working closely with the Early Careers community organising and supporting social and charity opportunities (the Gen-A community, consisting of apprentices, interns and graduates, of which I am the lead!)"

My qualifications

"3 A-levels in Travel and Tourism, ICT and Business Studies. First class with Honours degree in Aviation Management.CMI First Line Manager."
