About Rebecca...

Who am I?

"I really enjoy getting involved with projects run in the local area and being a STEM ambassador. I think this fits well with the trainer personality type i have matched with. i find that helping others to learn things helps me to consolidate my knowledge and think more deeply about the subject itself, meaning i learn more myself! My grandma has always called me \"problem solver\", even now! I think this suits the innovator personality, i enjoy coming up with new ideas as well as ways to fix problems, its like doing a puzzle.Iam very interested with the world around me and how to make it better and how to improve things. This helps me to learn new things which i really enjoy and i find this makes me quite flexible but i learn best being hands on. these are all traits of mine that fit well withint the developer personality type."

What do I do?

"I work in the data centre. We fix problems as they occur and carry out maintenance as required. My day to day job involves writing the standard operating procedure for mechanical and electrical equipment withing the data centre. I also do a lot of research into future projects that may be possible to increase the efficiency of our data centre."

How did I get here?

"I did my degree at Lincoln university and have always had a big interest in sustainability as it seems like its the younger generations problem to fix! The CEO of the company I now work for, plus a now colleague of mine came into one of our lectures to explain they were holding insight days over the next month to show younger people the data centre industry. I visited and they talked about how they’re trying to change the data centre industry to make it more sustainable and environmentally friendly. This is how i knew i wanted to work there! I got the job and have now been working there just under a year."

The life I live

"I play dodge-ball with a local team, this is competitive and we compete at league meets and tournaments across the country. I enjoy cycling and walking as well, originally i'm from Yorkshire and loved to spend time outdoors when i was younger. I really enjoy singing and you will often find me at home singing at the top of my lungs. Cooking is another passion of mine, especially making fresh pasta!"

My typical day

"I currently am helping to write the manuals for our equipment and how we will use them on a day to day basis. I also research into new equipment, including sustainable and new power generation technology. With the monitoring system some of my fantastic colleagues have built, we can see and, as a team, jump into action to fix problems."

My qualifications

"I took 4 A-Levels and then dropped one after AS-Level. I was told to play by my strengths by my Mum, because most people are good at things they enjoy and also enjoy things they are good at! So I took Maths, Physics, Spanish and Drama (AS-Level) because they were my strengths. With a bit of research and knowing much preferred hands on working and numbers over words, i decided to do Mechanical Engineering at University. I now have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering."
