About Oyin...

Who am I?

"Resilient - Always try your best and never give up because every step matters. Keep going and someone will get inspired by your journey.Willingness to grow - Growth is constant and very key to becoming a confident person."

What do I do?

"As a Technical Assurance Engineer at Thames Water, I work with Technical Leads, Project Managers and Engineering Contractors on different projects to find improved, safer ways of doing things and ultimately solve some of the problems we have our our wastewater treatment works. We provide clean water to homes and take away waste water for treatment."

How did I get here?

"I always loved maths and chemistry in school, so I decided to study them at A Levels. At University I studied Chemical Engineering for 4years which was very challenging but I loved it. After I graduated, I was not a 100% sure about what my career path would look like so I applied for graduate schemes with a good training reputation. Whilst waiting for the right graduate scheme for me, I worked in a bank as a personal banker temporarily, this was not a role that I enjoyed which emphasised that a career in Engineering was ultimately what I wanted. I joined Thames Water on the Engineering Graduate Programme. This was very exciting and I spent some time in the Process Engineering team, Major Projects and Project Definition side of the business. The grad programme helped me realise that I wanted a role that allowed me to be a more versatile engineer so I chose the Technical Assurance Engineer role. "

The life I live

"I am someone that enjoys fragrances. I make scented candles in my spare time, I find the process quite therapeutic."

My typical day

"A typical day for me involves technical review and collaborative meetings where we liaise with our Contractors to produced engineering detailed designs that are compliant and meet our requirements. I also spend some time resolving site specific queries that relates to the projects I am currently working on. There are also days where I spend some time out on site conducting health and safety audits and familiarising my self with the site and what changes these will have on site especially when we move to the construction phase of the projects."

My qualifications

"A Levels in Maths, Chemistry & Sociology and MEng degree in Chemical Engineering"
