About Andriea...
Who am I?
"My personality types are Developer, Explorer and Investigator and they come to life everyday in the work that I do. Developer- The types of analysis I do needs creative problem solving skills, a good understanding how other business areas work and how I can make their lives better with my analysis.Explorer- Any analysis that I do as part of my job requires research and experimenting with data, understanding why things happen, being comfortable working on my own and listening to other people's ideas.Investigator- A lot of my work involves collecting information from lots of different people and systems. Being able to work things out logically and quickly understand lots of different things really help me stay on top of my work. "
What do I do?
"My role is to use data to answer questions that come from different areas of the bank. The work that I do is mainly used to understand how our customers bank with us and what kinds of decisions we should make in a given situation. This can be anything from 'How do people spend their money in their current account?' to 'Which branches are most likely to close in the next 2 years and why?'. What I really enjoy about my job is exploring the different types of data that we have and coming up with different ideas of how to best answer the business questions. I also like working with new technologies and coding languages such as R and Python. I work in a team of 4 people and it is always interesting to bounce ideas off each other. "
How did I get here?
"When I chose my A levels and applied for university, I had no idea what I wanted to do for a job. I was always interested in numbers & problem solving and that combined with my chronic indecisiveness made me choose a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (a mix of numbers, problem solving and a lot of thinking!) During the summer of my last year at university, I did a marketing internship with the Civil Service and loved the analysis part of the job. Post graduation and after a summer of travelling around Europe, I moved to Bristol and applied for an analyst role at Lloyds working in the supplier management team, analyzing the different types of suppliers that the bank uses. Since then, I've moved around the company and progressed on to more technical analytical roles in different teams. "
The life I live
"I spend a lot of my spare time doing athletics. I do both the long and triple jump despite being quite short for a jumper (i'm 5'3). I also enjoy rock climbing and hiking. "
My typical day
"I start my day by checking my email and reading the latest company news with a cup of tea. At about 9:30, I have a quick call with my project team to understand where we are with our current project tasks and what everyone plans to work on for the rest of the day.I spend most of my day working on different parts of data analysis which could be researching, visualizing or finding stories from data using many different software applications. I also spend a bulk of my time thinking about how to present and explain my findings to people who may not necessarily be technical to understand models and coding languages. The rest of my time is normally spent on meetings which can range from presenting analysis to senior people to help them make decisions or coffee catchups with people from my team/ other teams to share knowledge. "
My qualifications
"Alevels - Maths, Physics, Further Maths, Economics and French Degree - Politics, Philosophy and Economics Currently studying for a masters alongside job - Digital Technology (Data & Analytics). "
