About Sarah...

Who am I?

"The personality types that I got were Manager, Innovator and Influencer. I feel that these fit perfectly with the role that I do. I need to be able to manage both projects and the developers to enable us to complete our build/development time within the timeline agreed. I have to continually influence people right through the life cycle of the project. I also need to be able to think of innovative solutions to the problems we are faced with and the processes that we are looking to automate."

What do I do?

"I love my job, I love automation work and robotics is really an exciting place to work. I enjoy the interaction with a variety of colleagues across the bank. I enjoy the problem solving and team work that we have to undertake to ensure our success. I love planning out our work and tracking our plans through to delivery. I enjoy seeing the difference to the business and our customers that my team and the robots have made. Most of all I enjoy learning new things. RPA stands for Robotic Process Automation. As RPA is still relatively new it is always exciting seeing it grow and develop and understanding the new functionality that is becoming available as more things are merged with RPA.The starting salary is around £30,000 and this can grow to around £60,000 once senior."

How did I get here?

"I left school having studied my A Levels and joined the bank as a collector on the phones. Over a number of years I worked my way up to Team manager and then Operations Manager. After I had my 3rd baby I decided that I wanted a career change so when I was on maternity leave I studied to be a project manager. I attended the APMP training and became a certified project manager, when I returned to work following my maternity leave I applied for a job as a project manager and was successful. I worked on a number of projects and then was asked to manage a robotics project. I loved robotics and the excitement of the build and seeing what the robots could do and the benefits they gave so I moved to the innovation team and applied for a job as robotics hub lead. I now manage a team of 6 RPA developers and we have 8 live robots and many more in delivery. I love the exciting nature of my job and the fact that it is so fast paced and you never really know what each day will hold."

The life I live

"I have 4 children and 2 dogs so don’t have much spare time but I love studying and learning new things. I am currently learning Italian. I also look running and keep fit so run at least 3 times a week. I enjoy spending time with my children and going to the beach. We also love to travel and camp. "

My typical day

"In a typical day I have to manage the projects we have that are underway (normally around 6 or 7). I need to work with the business and the developer to identify solutions to any issues so that we can continue with the build work. I have to look at work we have identified and begin to do requirements gathering for these projects and also understand the benefits case for upcoming projects to make sure they will deliver real benefit for the business unit. I have to manage any live robots that we have and ensure that they are working as expected. I need to manage any upcoming changes to these robots to ensure that if any code changes are required this is planned in with the developers. I have to do work to engage with new areas of the business and promote the work that we do."

My qualifications

"Studied 9 GCSE’s and then went on to study a levels in Geography and religion. After I had worked in banking for a while I took on some additional training and became a qualified project manager."
