About Carly ...
Who am I?
"I am a graduate, working as a Network Operator at Arqiva. Results from the personality test show that I am an explorer, investigator and quality controller. I believe these are all an accurate representation of my personality. For the work that I do it is very important that I use my quality controller traits and pay very good attention to detail, along with displaying a proactive attitude to complete my daily tasks and challenge how these daily procedures are undertaken. I am also given the opportunity and flexibility in my job role to show my explorer personality traits. There is so much to learn and skills of mine to develop. How much I want to learn and understand is left up to me and my passion for the job. This gives me great opportunity to get involved in many different projects and learn new skills. At certain times I must find solutions to problems in pressurised environments (e.g when a channel goes off air). This can lead to stressful situations, but my investigator personality traits allow me to combat these scenarios in a calm and efficient manner. "
What do I do?
"My job involves carrying out routine service and platform checks for Freeview TV. If any issues occur (e.g. a channel goes off air), I make sure that the appropriate people are notified whilst also identifying the fault and finding a resolution as soon as possible.I also manage any customer queries or issues relating to the services which we manage. A lot of these may come via email or phone. "
How did I get here?
"During Sixth Form I was made aware of engineering as a possible career path. From here, it was the obvious choice for me, being able to combine my passion for maths and physics as well as providing a more practical application to real life problems. I went on to study for a Mechanical Engineering degree which then gave me the opportunity to apply for a graduate job at Arqiva. "
The life I live
"Working shifts means I end up having between 4-5 days off at a time. This is great and allows me to travel and visit family often without having to take any time off work. When I’m not doing this, I enjoy keeping fit by attending fitness classes or playing football. I am a big football fan and enjoy playing as well as watching, so this often takes up most of my weekend!"
My typical day
"My day often starts by completing routine checks across all our systems in the MCR. This involves checking for any alarms and making sure any issues are followed up with the appropriate people. We monitor over 100 services and make sure that the customer (and you at home) receive the channel as expected, without any issues or outages. "
My qualifications
"A Levels: Maths, Physics, IT, Economics (AS).Undergraduate degree: Mechanical Engineering MEng "
