About Alexandra...

Who am I?

"I am in charge of navigating safely any size ship in the world from one port to another. I train the crew in safety, firefighting, medical first aid, company policies, and lifeboat/life raft launching. I navigate the ship 8 hours a day and when I’m in port, I’m doing cargo, stability, monthly safety reports and ordering parts for the vessel while managing an entire deck department. "

What do I do?

"I move cargo around the world and help 95 percent of all trade continue to cross the vast oceans. I see and explore new ports and work with people from every background. I work three months at sea and I have three months vacation on land."

How did I get here?

"I went to New York Maritime College. In the United States there are 7 accredited maritime academies to obtain your bachelors degree paired with an unlimited tonnage license. You start with a third mates license and need sea time and exams to move up to second mate, Chief mate and then Captain!"

The life I live

"I ski and party in Aspen, Colorado 6 months a year. I scuba dive, race sailboats, hike the mountains, visit friends and family in Europe, New York and in town."

My typical day

"Every day on a ship is different. I work 12 hour days for three months and then I have three months of vacation wherever I choose. I plan to obtain the rest of my sea time this year and make Master Mariner (Captain of any size ship in the world) which will open many doors for me when I move shoreside and become a ship broker and continue running my charity. "

My qualifications

"I have an Unlimited Tonnage Chief Mates License and 3000 ton Captains License. I also obtained a Masters in International Transportation Management from Suny Maritime College in Ny and MA. In Cognitive Semiotics from Aarhus University. "
