About Isabelle...
Who am I?
"I completed the Test and matched with 3 personality Types, Coach, Influence, and Manager. I found all of these accurate and relatable to myself and the role I play in my job. As a part of being a Quantity Surveyor (QS) we have to work under mutual trust and cooperation. Being open minded, team oriented, good with money and organised (Manager) are key elements in being a QS. Whereas Influence and Coach are more relatable to my personality. Being Detail oriented, reviewing detailed information, compassionate, team worker, good listener, trustworthy are all what have helped me build good working relationships even when discussing difficult topics when it comes to finance. "
What do I do?
"My main responsibilities are:•\tPricing and agreeing BoQ for schemes in accordance with agreed SoR.•\tProducing and agreeing star rate items for work not covered within SoR by combining plant, labour, material from SoR, Ceca rates or subcontract quotes. •\tProvision of programme.•\tComplete change management – from raising EWN’s & CE’s to providing revised price and programme. •\tDirect supply chain liaison.•\tCost/value reconciliation.•\tFinal Accounting.•\tPayment application/certification.•\tDirect client negotiation and general liaison.•\tRisk Register production and maintenance. This all sounds complicated but essentially is the cost and contract management of a project from start to finish. In this industry you experience a range of things which change the job daily in a constantly changing and developing industry. Working alongside a wide variety of people can be challenging but just as rewarding. "
How did I get here?
"I took the Apprenticeship Route, to get me where I am. I have found the apprenticeship has brought me on and put me strides ahead within my industry. Gaining real life work experience as well as higher education qualifications (fully funded) has allowed me to develop a name in the industry and learn first hand what the job entails. I originally went straight into A-Levels once I had finished my GCSEs. I completed my first year and decided that it wasn't for me. This was a big step and challenge to leave part way through however starting the college course is what lead me to my apprenticeship and where i am. The purely academic route isn't for everyone and changing part way though isn't a set back! Sometimes you need to try something to realise if its actually for you and what you want."
The life I live
"I have always been a one to keep busy and muck in over the years i have pushed myself to try new things constantly for the benefit of myself and others. This includes; UWCB for Cancer Research UK – 2018£300.00 Raised for Cancer Research UK in a charity Boxing Match.Kynren Show Volunteer (Eleven Archers) – Rejuvenating Bishop Auckland - 2017National Science and Engineering Competition Finals - March 2016I was put forward as a competitor, as one of the north east’s representatives for the National Science and Engineering Competition Finals in the British science association in March 2016, for my work in Multispectral imaging using multiplexed illumination. Being a part of this allowed me to develop skills in communication, presentation, research paper development, investigation and research.Crest Gold Award Feb /2016 - British Science Association, further development of my Nuffield research project.Nuffield Research Project - July 2015 –September 2015I participated in a four-week programme working with a Professor in the School of Mechanical and Systems Engineering at Newcastle University on a research project collecting 128 hours in total. The project is the research of Multispectral imaging using multiplexed illumination this included looking at the way that different organic, non-organic and biological samples react when illuminated by LED’s ranging from near infer red to near ultra violet light and the analysis of that. The first phase of this was developing an experiment that could look at different samples which to the naked eye look the same however under illumination are different due to their makeup. The final phase of this was analysing the images and looking into further detail of the samples to see if there was any further information available. The skills that I had to develop though out are; research, practical application of the experiment, collating results and data analysis."
