About Tania...
Who am I?
"Hiya, my name is Tania and I am a technical graduate on a graduate scheme at AVEVA. My background is in Mechanical Engineering and I decided to go to AVEVA as I am keen develop my software programming skills. My experience so far has been amazing, learning back-end programming has taught me new skills and highlighted my transferable skills from Mechanical Engineering.I feel my results match my personality and I can see why I matched with the following:Explorer/Investigator - I love exploring new areas of technology and expanding my understanding of these. From a young age, I have enjoyed exploring why the things around us work the way they do. This is why I chose an engineering degree.Influencer - This is something I haven't had to use much or showcase my skills with just due to being so early in my career. However, having worked with children & adults of all ages to enthuse them towards a career in STEM. I've always found it easy to build rapport with people and help guide them where I could, sometimes not even being aware that I had done so. Additionally, being the first woman in my family to go University and undertake a career in a male dominated industry - I have been actively trying to help women from my background into a career of their choosing. Quality Control - Since undertaking a degree in engineering, I have become aware of how important risk management and quality control is on everything we do, that can directly/indirectly have impacts on processes, customers and day to day life. I have a natural aptitude to always analyse and identify how to improve things around me."
What do I do?
"Being on a graduate scheme, I rotate everything 6 months within the organisation, so therefore my role and responsibility vary across these rotations. At this moment, I am part of the Engineering, Design & Management team, where I get to work across different products. On a daily basis I work on defects or enhancements identified for a product. This has allowed me to work with a variety of Developers of different seniority and learn on the job programming (C#, HTML, CSS & JavaScript)."
How did I get here?
"From a very young age, I've always wondered about the things around us, and having grown up in a small village of rural part of Germany, you end up spending a lot of time in the nature and have the opportunity to explore. I believe this strongly helped enthuse a fascination with sciences. Having enjoyed Biology, Physics & Chemistry at school, I decided to continue onto the same path when I moved to the UK. Whilst doing my A Levels I was selected for a Nuffield Science Foundation bursary, where I and a friend of mine conducted a 6 weeks research project at my 6th form. This then resulted Imperial College shortlisting our project for competition in the US. At this international science competition we beat out over 69 countries to win a gold medal. This is how my passion for engineering came about. After undertaking a degree in Mechanical Engineering, I decided to embark a journey in the Software industry, being aware that my skills as a Mechanical Engineer lacked programming ability. This is something I identified during my final year."
The life I live
"In my spare time, I love to knit and run an Instagram pages for STEM and for my amateur photography. Additionally, I am crazy about international movies & shows. "
My typical day
"My day to day activities can vary, I could be in meetings, programming, training or undertaking other activities identified as part of my personal development plan. "
