About Ellie...

Who am I?

"I think my personality types match myself quite accurately. As a Communicator, I understand that each person has different requirements when working or communicating with them, and I always listen to other peoples ideas and opinions. I am an Explorer - researching is one of my main skills and I would say I am extremely competitive. As an Investigator, problem solving is a skill I really enjoy. I like to find the best solution and implement that into a design."

What do I do?

"I mainly work on existing product development, but also complete calculations, test work, perform 3D printing and much more. This is really interesting as you can be creative within your designs and each task can be totally different allowing for such a great variety in my work. 3D printing is really fascinating as you can just model anything you like and have it on your desk in front of you in a few hours. I started as a Graduate Development Engineer with a salary in the region of £25,000-£30,000, and have since been promoted to Product Development Engineer. "

How did I get here?

"I always enjoyed and performed well in maths and science in school, and therefore took maths, chemistry and physics to A-Level. I was quite unsure about next steps after school and after much deliberation applied to university to study mechanical engineering. Thankfully, I got accepted and completed a MEng (masters of mechanical engineering) degree. This was 4 years of study with the option of completing a placement year. I then finished university and applied for engineering jobs and got accepted at Portakabin for a graduate role. "

The life I live

"In my spare time I am a keen netball player. I play 3 times a week in 3 different leagues across North Yorkshire and it can be said that I definitely have a competitive side. I also adore animals and am a vegetarian. "

My typical day

"During my day I will reply to technical questions from across other departments within the company. I will work on my task list which includes the existing product development, this may include modelling a new idea, completing some calculations, testing and more. I will also attend meetings about various topics and spend time in the manufacturing units or going to site. "
