About Louise...

Who am I?

"I am a Campaigner, Coach, and Influencer. As an Influencer, I am able to explain how different technologies work in a simple way that's easy to understand, which is a really important part of my job. When using new technologies it's also good to be able to problem-solve and think creatively, which is where being a Campaigner and Coach comes in. "

What do I do?

"It's often said that robots are not particularly 'clever' - they can only do what they're told to do, they can't make complex decisions, and they can only work with certain types of data.My job is to run experiments to see if we are able to make robots 'smarter' by combining them with 'intelligent' technologies which use artificial intelligence. A big part of this is learning how to use these new technologies, and then testing them on real processes and data to see whether it will make things quicker or better for our customers. What I love most about my job is that I have the best of both worlds. I really enjoy developing and getting stuck into the technical detail; but I also love spending time with people showing them the technology and explaining how it works. Learning is also very important to me and is something I really enjoy - when you're working in technology there is always something new to discover!"

How did I get here?

"I actually ended up working for a bank completely by accident!I originally went to University to study Economics, but after my first year I felt it just wasn't for me, so I changed courses to Politics & International Relations. During my second year of university, I was looking for a summer job and ended up applying for an internship at Lloyds. I spent 10 weeks there and was invited back to join their graduate scheme once I'd finished my degree. During the 2 year scheme I completed 3 placements in different areas of the bank, working on a variety of projects as a Business Analyst. I knew that once I finished the scheme I wanted to find a job involving technology & automation, but wasn't sure how as I didn't have any experience. I started teaching myself VBA (the programming language used for Microsoft Office), and practiced using it to automate tasks so I'd have the skills and knowledge needed to apply for the job I wanted. Once I'd finished the graduate scheme, I applied for a job in the Robotics team - and I've been here ever since!"

The life I live

"At weekends you'll often find me travelling to various places in the UK - I love spending time with my friends, but the fact we all live across 6 different cities means I spend a lot of time on trains! In my spare time, I enjoy reading, going to the gym, and snowboarding (not particularly well!). I also like to explore new places outside of the UK - I'm always planning my next trip away to try and meet my target of 30 countries before I'm 30!"

My typical day

"What I do at work day-to-day changes quite a bit, as I am usually involved in a few different projects at the same time.On a typical day, I'll start off by replying to my emails and reviewing my calendar for the day. I will then usually spend some time playing around with the different technologies to build something we can test as part of the experiments, and will often have meetings with people to talk to them about the technology and explain how it works. I also have meetings with my team to understand what other technologies are out there and to talk about how we could link them with robotics. "

My qualifications
