About Hayley...
Who am I?
"I feel these three personality types match very closely to me as an individual. Coach – as someone who takes great pride in exceeding expectations, this really suits me and also coincides with my good communication skills which in turn suit the work I do as a surveyor. One of the main skills that I use within my job is problem solving which is driven by my compassion and determination. A quality of the ‘coach’ personality type, is friendly and that is something I have in abundance. I love to smile and be friendly and make people feel at ease around me. Innovator – An innovator has confidence, something which is a very useful quality in the surveying role. It is not compulsory, however it can be very useful and helps me to understand what people require and need from me within my role. Another quality of this personality type is my strong will, to complete a task and to complete it well. Within the industry a good way to influence people is by being a good leader and open-minded. I find I am a logical thinker in my every day work and this helps with the quality outlined of being good with money. This is not necessarily related directly to my everyday tasks at work. However this kind of feature can be useful to translate organisation into my work ethic. Manager – The qualities of this personality type suit my role within surveying, showing I am motivated, adaptable and understanding. In group situations I am able to motivate others and use team-work skills to encourage discussion from others while listening. Again, organisation and good money handling skills are applied within this personality types showing what a key quality this is for me as an individual. "
What do I do?
"Currently, the mains things I do as part of my job are all rating related. So the outcome of the work I do affects individuals across the whole nation for business rate purposes. I have only recently started my graduate job when writing this profile, so it is difficult to express what I most like about the job. However, I can positively say I have loved every moment since I started. I most enjoy the places I get to go as part of my job, travelling around the country to different locations. "
How did I get here?
"How did I get here? Honestly? I used my determination to do what I wanted to do. After A-levels, I went to university and enjoyed the Real Estate undergraduate degree. Although this is the direct route I took, I am a promoter for all the different routes there are into the industry via apprenticeships, part-time study, masters etc. During my final year at university I applied to many graduate schemes across the North and London. The application process is an interesting process, which shows how popular the industry has become with so many applicants. This was good for me with a little bit of healthy competition. Upon receiving job offers for graduate positions, I made my choice where I would like to go to fit in with my life, career and development goals. I am an ambitious individual and so I took the job opportunity that best suited myself. Although I made a choice, I make sure I am also open to any opportunities that come my way for experience and other development chances. "
The life I live
"I am a real family girl. I love spending time with my family doing whatever it is that makes us all happy. Seeing my parents always makes me feel really at home and I love to get out and about with my boyfriend just enjoying each other’s company.A weird fact about me, is that I love to decorate! I love the painting, and making a house feel homely and cosy! I find shopping for home accessories is a great way to spend my time (and money)! "
My typical day
"My typical day starts off with spending time at my desk checking through emails and organising for the day/week ahead. I like to make sure I am organised and know where I need to be. A typical day currently as a graduate involves lots of training. This training is sometimes desk based or I am travelling the country to attend different seminars to gain the necessary relevant experience. I am also expected to go out and inspect some properties in order to get real information which can be checked against. A day at work for me is a good day as the organisation I work for has many employee benefits which make it a worthy place to work. "
