About Toni...

Who am I?

"The Investigator Personality type in my opinion suits most engineers! Often I am presented with small problems in my job and I have to figure out the best way to fix it . Often the best way means the most efficient, the cheapest and in military aviation- the quickest! I am very lucky that I am surrounded by a team of great Engineers who are all Subject Matter Experts and have huge amounts of experience! When presented with a problem I will liaise with them and design organisations to find a good solution! Often a big part of my job is communicating with people and being able to easily relay information to solve problems in an efficient manner! "

What do I do?

"I mainly manage the engineering work that happens on our Merlin helicopters. After I complete my training (2 years in total) at Christmas, I will then start to plan the maintenance on our helicopters and support equipment up to about a year in advance. I may go away with our aircraft either to places such as Norway, California or on an aircraft carrier!"

How did I get here?

"I studied Maths, Chemistry and Physics at A Level. I also did History to AS Level.I then had a year out and worked a bit as a wedding planner!I then studied a degree at the University of Southampton in Aerospace Engineering - that lasted 3 years!I then joined the Royal Navy and after two years of training later, I am nearly qualified as an Air Engineer Officer!I have been inspired often by science and the inventions made by some really cool scientists! My grandfather was a flight test engineer on Concorde so I have aways though aircraft are amazing!"

The life I live

"I love horse riding and CrossFit (lots of running, cycling, weightlifting and almost everything else you can think of doing in the gym)!I like travelling and have been all over the World with my job. Singapore, California, Cyprus, Germany, New York are just some of the places I have been to with the Royal Navy!I also really like tattoos and although I only have one (a tribute to Concorde) I would love another soon!"

My typical day

"Here is a quick breakdown of my day at work! I live 10 minutes walk from my Squadron which is easy! I also live with a lot of other engineers and pilots which is fun! 0630: Wake Up - have to have my favourite Krave cereal for breakfast!0730: Get into the Office and catch up with anything that happened during the flying that happened in the night!0815: Engineers meeting - we discuss everything that has happened during the last 24 hours and what will be happening in the next 24 hours!0900: Begin answering any emails, maybe investigate any faults that have occurred on the aircraft.1045: Brief the state of the aircraft to the pilots on the Squadron (and maybe the big boss!)1230: Lunch where I get to catch up with my friends and hear what everyone else is up to!1300: Answering emails, maybe attend some meetings and plan any deployments that the aircraft may be doing!1700: Go to the gym!! (Fav part of the day)1845: Have dinner with friends and catch up again!2100: Chill out with some tv before bed & goodnight!"
