Be true to yourself. You can do anything you want to do and if it takes you a little longer to get there than a straightforward path, it doesn't matter! Believe in yourself and you will achieve and don't try to be somebody else to get to where you want to be - you're only you and the only you on this earth.
About Tania...
Who am I?
"I use my Communicator personality often as I am a people person. If I couldn't communicate with the people around me I couldn't progress the projects or find new opportunities for the business. I have to make sure that everyone I work with understands the objectives in order for them to be able to do their job properly, which is where Coach comes in very handy. "
What do I do?
"I manage projects and studies related to engineering design. This includes looking at things in the very early stages of problem solving to developing something that can be manufactured and used. I also work with a team of people that manage a contract with a client that allows us to do all the projects and studies. This requires a lot of communication and understanding how we can help the client with the resources we have. I enjoy discussing problems and solutions with people and seeing results and outputs from projects. It is great being involved in discussions about how we improve so that we don't make the same mistakes twice. I love that I am learning about new things all the time and every day I learn something new. There are definitely opportunities as the career path is endless. I could aim to be the CEO one day if I wanted to. For now I am just happy getting better at doing my day job and being a more consistent, reliable, member of the team."
How did I get here?
"I come from a very humble background and I still don't know how my mum kept us all on the right path, got my siblings and I through good education and into good careers. It could've all gone so wrong on many occasions. She taught me a lot. Don't make your current life or future about your past - it doesn't define you. My mum, my Stepdad inspired me and I had a few teachers that believed in me and my abilities. I still don't really believe I'm that clever or capable but it's nice to surprise myself occasionally."
The life I live
"I enjoy being at home, sport for fun and to challenge myself. I'm never going to be race winning but I will always challenge myself. I enjoy cooking and just being around my home with my family. I love being outside too in the garden, walking and chilling. "
My typical day
"A typical day is filled with emails, meetings, discussions. That's what it can be brought down to but it is more interesting than that. I work with a diverse range of people from senior managers figuring out company strategy to finance teams making sure we get paid for what we do, to the people doing the day-to-day work that earn the company money and deliver the strategy. People are the most important part of my work, without them, I couldn't deliver on all the promises we've made, so a lot of the day is spent making sure that everyone has what they need to do their work."
My qualifications
"Secondary education (GCSE/O-Levels) South African Matric English (C) Afrikaans (C) Maths (C) Physical Science (C) Geography (A) Technical Drawing (A) Vocational qualification (Diploma, Certificate, BTEC, NQV4 or equivalent) Undergraduate degree (BSc, BA, etc.) Undergraduate BSc Mechanical Engineering (Grade 2:2) Post-graduate degree (MSc, MA, etc.) Post-Graduate MSc Nuclear Science & Technology (Grade Pass) Certifications: Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer Microsoft Certified Database Administrator DELF B1 French Certification Association of Project Managers Project Management Qualification (PMQ) Chartered Engineer with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers "
