Milica Peric

Product Engineering Leader at Airbus

Maths and Physics are important subjects to have to get into university to complete Engineering. I never excelled in 'building' competitions at school or was particularly interested in the typical engineering toys (such as Lego) but I thrive in engineering because of my logical nature and my enthusiasm to solve puzzles. Do not think that because you can't build something from first principles / can't visualise something from a drawing that you cannot do engineering.

About Milica...

Who am I?

"My inquisitive and curious nature uses my Explorer personality and means I enjoy finding out more about an issue and looking for a resolution. I think that my Quality Controller is helpful when checking details and making sure the aircraft conforms to safety regulations. I very much enjoy working with other people (part of the Investigator role) and working on a number of topics at the same time. "

What do I do?

"I ensure the safety of Airbus fleet of A330 / A340 aircraft by analysing things that happen in-service and during manufacture or engineering of the aircraft. I make decisions on the best developments to pursue for the A330 fleet in order to produce the best product for the airline customers. Problems have to be resolved regarding any quality issues before and after the delivery of the aircraft to the airline customer. I like the chance to work with a number of different teams on issues that directly affect the everyday running of the A330 fleet and exchanging ideas with colleagues all over the world. There is opportunity within UK as well as to other Airbus sites in Europe and all over the world."

How did I get here?

"My parents are both Civil Engineers and I believe engineering provides a great work / life balance as well as interesting work. At Airbus, a number of senior engineers have mentored me and are always willing to provide their time and guidance which is invaluable. When I was at school, engineers used to come in and do engineering activities with us to encourage us to go into engineering e.g. bridge building, building gliders, etc. I was always rubbish at those activities as I did not know how machines went together and did not have the ability to visualise how things came together. This could have discouraged me from going into engineering. However, I am a very good engineer because of other personality attributes such as curiosity, approachability, drive and the ability to make decisions based on information gained from other people. "

The life I live

"I love swimming, cycling and running (taking part in triathlon & running events, Half Ironman, Half Marathon, etc). I am not very fast at all but I enjoy the endurance aspect. I recently became a mother so my son takes up a lot of my spare time now."

My typical day

"A typical day can involve reviewing issues that have come up in-service or in production with various teams of experts to assess the best way forward, meeting with our production suppliers to ensure no issues are up-coming in terms of delivery or chairing reviews to decide on the developments proposed for the A330 to make it a better product."

My qualifications

"Post secondary education (College, A-levels, NVQ3 or equivalent) A Level Maths (A), Chemistry (A), Physics (A), French (A) Post-graduate degree (MSc, MA, etc.) First Class Honours in Aeronautical Engineering (with Study in Continental Europe) "
