About Jessica...

Who am I?

"I am quite creative in how I approach my job. I also spend quite a lot of time trying to influence people."

What do I do?

"I work from home, so I often end up sending emails in my pyjamas! I love the flexibility of my job and that I get to meet so many diferent people. But I do go out and run workshops or events most days so I dress smartly for that. Starting salary for my current role is £38,000. "

How did I get here?

"A-level physics, biology and geographyAfter finishing my A-levels I took a year out and worked in a school in Guyana with an brilliant organisation called Project Trust. I taught physics and biology. My experience made me realise how lucky I was and that I should always make the most of what education has to offer. I chose geology as a subject because there were field trips involved! I found I was better at the maths side of the subject so focused on physics and engineering topics."

The life I live

"I like running, food, seeing friends, travelling and I'm also a mum to twins!"

My typical day

"Every day is different - I love my job! I work from home, but go to different schools, universities or events most days. I help train science teachers and also work on projects to find out how we can encourage more girls to choose subjects like physics. So one day I could be working with school students and the next networking at a conference!"

My qualifications

"I completeed GCSEs in maths, English language, English literature, biology, chemistry, physics, political history, geography, PE, food technology and French.I did A-Levels in physics, biology and geography. A degree in Geology and a PhD in palaeoclimatology. I then realised I really wanted to work with people so became a teacher. I taught science. After 5 years I moved to my current job. Teaching was great and I may go back to it one day."
