Elisha Lickiss

Quality Assurance Coordinator at Nippon Gohsei

I always say do what you enjoy! Like me - that way I would think you wouldn't get bored in your job. There are so many routes now into a manufacturing based career, university isn't the only route - I think if someone told me this then I may even be an engineer!

About Elisha ...

Who am I?

"The three personality type I got was:CommunicatorI feel like this fits well with me and my current role, as I enjoy conducting presentations, leading group exercises where I am able to through training let everyone be heard and get their point across. Quality ControllerThis fits in pretty well as it is in my job title! Quality Assurance means a keen eye for details I think and looking as a problem and already thinking about finding solutions and overcoming the challenges. This fits in well with my current role as conduct analysis on data daily and work with others to look for opportunities for improvement Trainer I think this also fits in well with my current role, as I may not be as technically minded as others are and I always find a way to explain thing to different levels. "

What do I do?

"I've split out the main activities of my job and in particular the ones I enjoy the most: Data analysis = looking at numbers, comparing them with specifications, determine if product meets specification or not. looking for trend and anomalies Investigations = conducting investigations (from day to day problems to product quality).Auditing= organising the auditing schedule, sending out reminders to all auditors and also auditing systems myself. Starting Salary £28,000."

How did I get here?

"At school I really enjoyed Geography, carried on with that through to my A-Levels and studied Geography and Environmental Management at The University of Bradford, where I graduated with a 2:1 Hons. With my University course I completed a placement year at Vivergo Fuels Limited, I went on to finish my degree and Vivergo Fuels offered me a full time job as a Environmental Coordinator. Unfortunately the plant shutdown and now I work for Nippon Gohsei as a Quality Coordinator. My role at Nippon Gohsei is very similar to my previous job as when working with management systems the skills and knowledge is transferable, so the transition wasn't very hard. "

The life I live

"I have two children, both very young and haven't started school yet, so all my free time is basically looking after then and taking them out on fun filled days, I work flexible at Nippon so I don't work Fridays, this type of work is offered to all as long as you have justification for doing so! I feel like I haven't sacrificed my career or my family time with this great mix of the two. I really enjoy going to the gym and running and trying to keep fit and healthy. "

My typical day

"My typical work day starts with turning on the computer and reading my emails (this is important as you day can vary massively).Next I check to see what incidents have been raised over the last 24 hours and see if any of them need my attention.I will then look at the last 24 hours worth of product data, and identify if any results need my attention.I will then either work on an improvement project, audits or investigations.I work closely with the lab team and often pop in to ask about the final product quality, if everything is ok or if there are any issues. There will also be the odd request from other departments for help, so when they arise I will focus on them.My role is a supporting role, so if someone asks for help I am there to assist."
