Who am I?

"My personality type results are: Communicator - Coordinator - Trainer.These are all attributes that I use in my daily work activities. My projects require each member to be a good team player and also be able to take on responsibilities and make decisions. I usually have to work with a multi-disciplinary team, with a great variety of people from different backgrounds. This has helped me develop good communications skills and also understand the needs of the others in order to work more efficiently. "

What do I do?

"I work as a Traction Systems Engineer for a railway company. The role involves the design of traction systems for new and older trains, metros and trams. That is the system that will collect the power and eventually move the train to the right direction. I enjoy the fact that I always get to see and test the final product and the sense of achievement when whatever I have designed actually works as it should! The starting salary for this role was £25k. "

How did I get here?

"After my university degree, I joined Alstom through their Graduate Programme, which is designed for training recent graduates for the role they are going to take in the future. The training includes both technical and soft skills courses, seminars and on the job learning. "

The life I live

"What I love doing in my spare time is travelling! I try to take every opportunity and visit as many parts of this world as possible. I also like photography and cinema. When it comes to sports I enjoy cycling and swimming. "

My typical day

"My job involves a lot of travelling so most days are not the same and this is what makes it more interesting. I normally spend some type replying to emails in the morning, then join daily or weekly meetings and get to work solving problem that arise every day in the project that I am working on. Apart from the office work, I get to visit depots and laboratories for testing our equipment and making sure all the issues are addressed. "

My qualifications

"I have an MEng in Electrical and Computer Engineering. After graduating, I joined Alstom through their Graduate Programme which helped be understand the industry and my future role a lot better, gave my some technical background with on the job training as well as any soft skills that I was lacking at the time. At the end of the 2-year programme, I started working full time as a Traction Systems Engineer, which is still my role till today."
