About Katherine...

Who am I?

"I do feel that the three personality types match with me, I'm quite motivated and determined. To be within the signalling business especially in a management role you need to have a strong personality and not be afraid of conflict. Although you also need to be able to resolve it quite quickly too! Working with a team you need to be aware of the other people around you and ensure that they know what is expected of them and their deadlines."

What do I do?

"I manage deliverables on railway signals currently around Bristol. The outcome of my work is that the railway will be ready for the electrification to take place. I enjoy the variety of the work and how every day is different. The people I work with are like a family and when it times get tough we all pull together to ensure it gets done. "

How did I get here?

"When I first started out I was an administrator for a pharmaceuticals company, I made coffee and ordered stationery. I knew I had to start somewhere and got introduced to Project Management when I went travelling to New Zealand back in 2015. I landed a job as a Project coordinator on Aucklands Casino and restaurants and got given opportunities to manage smaller packages of work by my boss at the time. I managed a build of a restaurant called The Sugar Club and it changed my career and inspired me to complete my Prince 2 and then go on to do my APMP. I love to organise and love working within a team to meet goals, being given these opportunities made me realise how much I wanted to progress with this back in the UK. "

The life I live

"I have a one year old daughter, I work three days a week and look after her for two so I am currently managing not only delivering a project but also helping a little one grow up! I also have a rescue dog who is 14 so life gets pretty hectic. I also love boxing and when I get a bit of spare time I do like to try and do some exercise! "

My typical day

"I am delivering the closeout of a project this means that I am tying up all the loose ends to ensure that we can hand the signals and assets back to the railway. A typical day would include me catching up with my team to see what work they are up to that day and what they hope to achieve so I can report back to our client or my manager. Replying to emails, chasing people to see where they are and when they are delivering the work I require. I do tend to go through alot of coffee some days and stop for chats just to ensure that the team I'm working with are all happy and know what is expected. "

My qualifications

"Prince 2, foundation and Practitioner APMP Practitioner"
