About Manisha...

Who am I?

"I think that the personality types do match with me about 90%. I like to develop new ideas and content whilst being able to lead or inspire groups to work together. In my line of work developing new content is essential of course and at ARM, Technical Authors work in big teams. My team has 14 members and we collaborate on different projects so having people who can coordinate and take initiative really matters. Management does not solely include management of teams but also of one's time and resources. The ability to draw up clear and detailed plans is certainly of great help within my role. However, one must strive to be as flexible as possible because in a tech company - the technology changes faster than ever!"

What do I do?

"The main thing I do is write content for the documents that go along with the CPUs that ARM designs. One cannot work with a bare CPU design and needs information on how to bridge it to other components, its technical details and other features. This is what I write about with help from the engineers who design these CPUs. A typical day at work involves understanding a new processor design, a meeting with the team or with an engineer and lots of editing! The thing I enjoy the most is the ability to write whilst also being connected to science and technology. I've been able to combine the two most loved parts of my life - science and writing! My starting salary was £35000 plus benefits."

How did I get here?

"I completed an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering in India and then pursued a Masters degree in Nanomaterials from Imperial College London. Other than that, my training in writing comes from the two books that I have written and had published - The Last Link and Murder for Passion. My father was a constant source of inspiration for me and I was always encouraged by him to do all that I wanted. He has a bachelor and masters degree in Chemistry, owns and operates a business in India and reads more on Quantum Physics in his spare time. I'm blessed to be his daughter. My employer has not yet contributed towards my further education but I learn new things everyday at the office and that, in my humble opinion, is more than enough! However, ARM does have employee benefits than can potentially fund a part time masters degree, development course or any sort of development activity. In the future, I see myself as a bestselling author and leading the wider team in the future. My plan is to work towards both these goals with focus and determination. "

The life I live

"I enjoy reading and cooking in my spare time. Other than that, I really like to spend time learning to sketch!"

My typical day

"A typical day at work involves understanding a new processor design, a meeting with the team or with an engineer and lots of editing!I am working on creating documentation for a new processor from scratch at the moment. This means that my lead tech author and I have been given information about the processor which we need to simplify for our customers and work into different documents. This is quite an exciting part of my current work life because I'm getting to work with a really understanding lead author whilst honing my skills in some of the non-writing aspects of creating a document - creating images, running editing checks and reviewing existing files. "

My qualifications

"I studied in India up until my undergrad so my GCSE equivalent qualifications are a little difficult to translate to the British system but I pursued a Master's degree from Imperial College London and that was one cool master's degree!I got hired straight out of my masters. There wasn't really much of a gap. I finished my course on the 30th of September and was at work on the 1st of October haha!As for my writing career, I wrote my first book when I was 12 and had it published when I was 13. I broke a national record in India for this and was awarded the Youngest Published Author in India for this. Since then, I have written and had another book published called The Last Link. This contributed to the writing skill requirement for my current role."
