When it comes to school work or Uni work, remember it’s a few months of the year, put your head down and focus for those couple of months and it will make all the difference on results day, what you put into your work, you'll get out of it. Also, I can't say this enough, do what you want to do, don't let people make your decisions for you, don't follow everyone else if you don't want to. What you want to do will be where you exceed and overachieve. Whatever decisions you make, create your own pathway, make new footprints, don't step in someone else's. You'll meet the most amazing people along the way as well as grow and develop into the best version of you.

About Annabel...

Who am I?

"Being inquisitive and understanding how and why things happen as per Explorer, is a great personality for this job as problem solving is a huge aspect of my work. Working to deadlines and communicating with high profiled clients uses my Campaigner trait. Having clear plans and finding ways to complete tasks effectively is key while working as part of a team and supporting each other to reach the goals. Manager personality is clearly useful with this. Although I need to have an understanding of the team goals, I need to also be able to concentrate and focus on specific tasks to ensure the standards are maintained at a higher quality than our competitors. It is essential I listen to our clients and understand exactly what they want and need for their project as well as suggesting ideas and a design which accommodates their needs."

What do I do?

"I am a consultant for Informed Solutions. My role varies depending on the project needs of our clients. I've been at the company for over 2 years and i constantly explore different aspects and phases of digital transformation projects, some of these include service design, business analysis, performance analysis, front-end development, interaction design, user research and delivery management. These are just some of the roles that make up our project teams, so each project is resourced to ensure the needs are met. I have worked on a number of projects since I joined the company, one was a delivery management role ensuring the internal and external communication needs are met and the project is run to deadlines. This also includes reporting and high level risk management. I've worked on some service design aspects of projects and have developed prototypes with html to test with internal and external users of the project. I have also done some Business Analysis work looking at supporting evidence for decisions and ways to make a project more efficient and beneficial to users. I can gain an understanding of lots of different roles within a project and therefore I am able to broaden my range of skills and know I am constantly learning and developing. I am also constantly communicating with clients and new people which I can learn from and I really enjoy working in teams and bouncing off other people. There are many opportunities, especially with Informed Academy, so I'm definitely in a good place to set me up for the future."

How did I get here?

"I grew up on a farm, my family are mostly farmers so I've absolutely no idea where my passion from IT came from, I used to enjoy making mud pies in the garden much more than sitting inside on the computer. It's important for the girls to note that whatever their parents do and wherever they've grown up, they can still do whatever they want to do! So many people inspire me, including Sheryl Sandberg, who instantly stood out for me when I was younger. I watched one of her TedTalks in which I think she became my first professional role model and then I read her book 'Lean In' which instantly appealed to me. There are so many inspirational women out there, Marissa Mayer, Helena Morrissey, Michelle Obama, I could go on. We are so fortunate to live in an era where women have so many more opportunities and so many people to look up to. I have been surrounded by incredible, talented and inspirational women to look up to and to aspire to be like within the business world."

The life I live

"I'm very social, so meeting friends and going to the pub is definitely what I enjoy doing! I'm also very sporty, so anything from playing hockey to a game of rounders in the park with a picnic. "

My typical day

"My current projects require agile ways of working which includes daily stand up meetings, tickets (tasks) and backlog refinement (creating and prioritising the teams tasks) are main components of the project. We have a daily-stand up meeting every morning to discuss progress and to identify any obstacles with our work. Every day is different and there is no 'typical day' as we work in an agile way: things evolve so quickly I tend to move from task-to-task very quickly. I can be working on supporting evidence for a decision one day and testing ideas with users the next day. We work with government clients a lot, so we adopt the GDS service design approach to our projects."

My qualifications

"Secondary education (GCSE/O-Levels) 12 A*-BPost secondary education (College, A-levels, NVQ3 or equivalent) A level Business – A, IT – A, PE – B, Psychology - BUndergraduate degree (BSc, BA, etc.) BSc Management and Information Technology - 1st Class Honours. Undergoing training throughout my job now, such as development courses, agile methodologies and commercial management.Informed Academy is a new program launched at Informed Solutions to help graduates grow and develop throughout their job at the company. So far I’ve covered things like master Classes in presentations and commercial awareness and recently completed a software development course in order to strengthen my skills."
