About Christine ...
Who am I?
"I make it my mission to get to know my team and ensure they know I appreciate and care about the work they do. They are not just numbers here to deliver my Project. We deliver together as a team. My personality traits of Communicator, Trainer and Campaigner all involve different aspects that are really important to my job, such as Communicator in simplifying technical information and Campaigner in being able to meet deadlines."
What do I do?
"I am a Project Manager in TT Technology. I manage the Technical delivery of software or systems. It involves working with a lot of super talented and very technical people and quite often requires me to translate the technical jargon into plain English for the not so technical.I love working with people. My current project involves working with numerous people from many different countries and all walks of life. I find it really interesting and it makes the world such a small place. There are lots of opportunities in my company and lots of people transfer sideways as well as upwards. I don’t travel really, unless you count London as exciting!"
How did I get here?
"My children inspired me. I was a single mum to 3 children for a long time. I wanted them to have a good home and opportunities in life. In all honesty, my main inspiration was my Aunt. Not from a work perspective but because she taught me that being kind, non judgemental, and being downright nice to others brought far greater rewards. Even when life was not being kind to me. I started out life in the Civil Service working in what is now known as The Department of Work and Pensions. I moved 6 years later to work in Trafford Council on the Council Tax Team where I worked for 9 years. It was very stressful as trying to collect money from people is never fun. If I ever mentioned what I did for a living when out and about, it didn't make me popular. Let’s face it, nobody really wants to pay Council Tax! A pivotal moment was when at an office Christmas party. There were lots of companies in the room, when they shouted Trafford Council Tax, we literally got booed! That’s when I knew I wanted something else. Purely through chance I got friendly with a group of people in a pub, one of whom was the MD of a software company who offered me a job. It was a huge decision as I was a single mum to 2 kids at the time but I gave up my ‘safe’ job with a good pension and lots of leave and jumped ship to company who sold payroll Software. Far less pay, no pension and less holidays. My new job was a mix of organising Engineer visits and front line trouble shooting for customers. A world away from calculating benefits and being shouted at for ‘issuing’ Court Summons. After 19 months, a position became available at what was then Opal Telecoms nearer where I lived, I got offered the job and here I am 18 years later. I started at Opal getting new Businesses onto the Opal Network, moved into a Business Support role, eventually ending up becoming a Project Manager."
The life I live
"Having fun with my family and walking my dogs. I have 3 children, 1 grandchild and 3 crazy dogs. I refuse to grow up and love being at the beach and theme parks. I enjoy fancy dress parties at home and picnics!"
My typical day
"I attend numerous meetings and conference calls. I check where work is up to and discuss any new problems. Making sure the teams have everything they need to do the job they have been assigned to is a very important part of my day. I have to keep track of everyone's activities and make sure that the right people know where the project is up to. So basically lots of communication."
