About Millie...

Who am I?

"According to Myers Briggs, I am an ENFG - In simple terms, I am energetic, passionate and always willing to support. I have strong morale values and i'm not afraid to speak up when I see something unjust. Within role, I liaise with customers and stakeholders, which allows me to be personable and form genuine professional connections. "

What do I do?

"My role entails supporting, liaising and generating flood alleviation schemes within Yorkshire. I have formed a great network of stakeholders from Lead Local Flood Authorities and Risk Management Authorities (such as councils, EA, IDB, WYT etc). We look to work in partnership on wide-scale flooding issues. This is incredibly rewarding when we can work together to protect properties and businesses from flooding. Starting Salary is circa £32,000"

How did I get here?

"After joining Yorkshire Water in 2017 (17 y/o) as a Technical Project Assistant working on-site with third party developments, I became a project coordinator, supporting the project managers with the development of those third party capital delivery schemes. Within this role, I completed a Level 3 in Construction and the Built Environment. Following the floods in 2019/20 we created a new Flood Recovery team to repair and make our assets more resilient- this is where my passion for flood protection arose. I started my current role in 2021, and I can truly say I am completely passionate about it. Yorkshire Water have also been extremely forthcoming in my personal education and given me the opportunity to study, therefore I have now received a First Class honours Degree in Business Management Practice - huge thank you to YW. "

The life I live

"I have a passion for travel. I have been to countless countries and spend 3/4 weekends travelling the UK. Scotland, Wales, Cornwall and the Lake District are my personal favourites - I camp, hike, swim and enjoy nature (while also having a laugh round a campfire with some great friends). I'm also part of a TAG rugby team, playing twice a week in different leagues. This keeps me energised and healthy, something I really do enjoy, and again, the social side of this is fantastic and i've met some wonderful people. "

My typical day

"Day-to-day can differ depending on the weather. If we have a heavy downpour, my day will usually be spent liaising with Councils/EA to protect properties by installing pumps and flood protection assets. Whereas, on a more dry day, my hours are spent going through designs, looking at where we can implement protection measures to support communities. I may also spend a day a week on site, supporting risk management authorities' schemes. "

My qualifications

"First Class Honours Degree in Business Management Practice. (2023)NVQ and BTEC level 3 in Construction and the Built Environment. (2019)GCSEs - Maths, English Literature, English Language, Double Science (x2), Further Maths, Business Studies, RS, Food Technology.Numerous on site qualifications such as - NRSWA, Confined spaces, working at heights, sewer lining, clean water lining, H&S"
