About Nicola...
Who am I?
"I think the Trainer and Coach 'personality type' fits particularly well with the work I do as I thrive on working with teams and helping them learn and apply new ways of working to improve their day to day working environment. In order to do this, I have to build good working relationships with the team and understand what they want in order to support them. My Campaigner personality type is very useful in doing this and I get to understand all areas of the business I work in."
What do I do?
"My job involves coaching and helping people to problem solve. I work with people to change the way they do things to improve the outcome. It can be incredibly challenging getting people to see things from a different perspective and to see how it will benefit them. I spend time learning and understanding behaviour and group culture, which impacts upon teams and performance. I don't travel much with work but this year I travelled to Sweden to learn about their application of Manufacturing Excellence."
How did I get here?
"My sister (who is also a scientist) encouraged me to try new things and upon picking my University degree, helped me to decide that Science was the way to go if I wanted to challenge and stretch myself and reach my full potential. Primarily, my goal once leaving University, was to obtain a permanent job. Once I did this, I wanted to learn as much as possible about improving myself, my role and the business I was in. My current role is a secondment and development opportunity from my previous role as a Microbiology analyst. I was able to apply for the role because I got involved in projects to learn new skills. After successfully completing various projects, it meant that I had the skills required for the new job."
The life I live
"I go the gym two or three times a week and do a range of activities including Yoga, Pilates and weight lifting (I'm a novice but it has been a good way to relax and avoid cardio training). My weekends are spent attending as many festivals or live music events as possible. Music is a passion of mine."
My typical day
"On a typical day, I attend team meetings across site, help teams identify issues at those meetings and problem solve by coaching teams to a solution. I also encourage the development and use of standards so teams can continue to improve."
My qualifications
"Undergraduate degree (BSc, BA, etc.)"
