About Libby...
Who am I?
"My work is about steering and representing the UK interests in human spaceflight and microgravity. I have to work with lots of people across the UK, understand their viewpoints and then bring everything together and make decisions that best reflect the UK position. This level of understanding people and getting on with lots of different people is very much the Coach trait. "
What do I do?
"I am a UK Civil Servant, working for the UK Space Agency. I lead and manage the UK Space Agency’s human spaceflight programme, which includes setting both the science and industrial plans for the UK in this area. I develop and carry out a national microgravity programme, secure future investment, evaluate past success and communicate the benefits of the programme to the general public through a wide range of media. I am working at the top of my field in my home country which has been a lifelong interest and passion. There are many opportunities available in the Civil Service across all sorts of amazing and interesting areas right across government or within the UK Space Agency."
How did I get here?
"I was always interested in human spaceflight and operations. The early days of exploration: Mercury, Gemini and Apollo fascinated me and I grew up in the era of the early Space Shuttle expeditions. "
The life I live
"Being out in the great outdoors! Walking, running, skiing (when I can). Also just enjoying time with friends and family and switching off from work."
My typical day
"Most days are about talking to colleagues and coordinating the programme. This might be through emails, meetings or telephone calls. "
