About Alisha...

Who am I?

"I’m a Coordinator which suits as I need to be organised and have attention to detail as a medic. I need to be able to meet patients’ needs and be good at communicating to them. I must be able to coordinate the team and work together to effectively meet the patients' best interests. Influencer fits as I need to be polite and conscientious and must be good at explaining things to non-specialists e.g. to patients. Gold standard practice involves practising evidence based medicine and as a clinician, I try to continually improve service provision e.g. by checking what I do. Quality Controller is accurate as I must be honest and safe in order to provide good patient care. Medicine involves meticulous attention to detail to prevent errors from occurring."

What do I do?

"As a final year medical student, I will start the academic foundation programme in August, which involves balancing clinical work with research and teaching. Currently, my clinical work includes being on the wards, clinics, note-taking, practical procedures. My research involves working in a lab, evaluations, appraisals, case reports. For the teaching, I have supervised younger students. For the UK paediatric society, I maintain the websites, organise events and conferences. The variety is great as no day is the same, I like meeting lots of people and there are so many opportunities with the flexibility to explore your interests. I travelled abroad for my elective to work in a hospital in Vietnam and with the NSW Air Ambulance in Australia."

How did I get here?

"It was doing work experience at school inspired me to take this route."
