I am really motivated by renewable energy and doing what I can to help the environment, so studying energy and working with renewable technologies are really interesting for me.
About Lottie...
Who am I?
"Lottie is cooperative, a good communicator and she is not shy of introducing herself to new people. She is empathic and likes to help people by teaching them how to use systems, which really suits the ‘Trainer’ and ‘Coach’ types. She is also logical and enjoys having responsibility, which matches well with the ‘Quality Controller’ type. Lottie really enjoys learning, and working in the offshore wind industry means that things are always changing and there is always more for her to learn."
What do I do?
"Lottie works with a team of engineers to ensure that things get completed on time and to budget. She arranges and attends meetings and makes sure that everyone in the team and the other companies they work with are communicating well. She keeps track of invoices from other companies to make sure they are correct and that her company has enough money to pay them on time. Day-to-day, she checks emails, attends meetings and writes a ‘to do’ list for herself. She also updates spreadsheets and checks through designs and comment sheets. Lottie also gets to travel for her job, and a lot of her work involves face to face communication and speaking to colleagues in other countries, which she loves."
How did I get here?
"Lottie did A-Levels in Maths, Geography and Physics. She then went to university and completed a 4-year MEng degree in Energy Engineering. Lottie’s dad is an engineer and when she was growing up she could see that he found it really interesting and was challenged by it, but also maintained a good work/life balance which appealed to Lottie and inspired her to get into Engineering herself. Her starting salary as Project Engineer was £28,000."
The life I live
"In her spare time, Lottie likes walking in the countryside, going to gigs, sewing, reading, going to the pub with friends, yoga and swimming. She is also adventurous and really likes travelling, which she gets to do a lot in her role. She travels somewhere once every 2-4 weeks, and has really enjoyed making lots of trips to Copenhagen recently. At Siemens, there is a set progression path with certain training courses you can take and lots of opportunities for Lottie to take on more responsibility. In the future, she would like to still be working with offshore renewable technology and to one day progress to become a Project Manager."
