About Suzanne ...

Who am I?

"Suzanne is a Patent Attorney protecting designs and brand names for a company that designs and develops microchip technology that is used in billions of products globally. Suzanne is an organised, fair minded and logical individual, suitable for her role as a Patent Attorney whereby she has to ensure that her teams’ ideas are protected and compliant with legislations. This emphasises the ‘Quality Controller’ side of her personality whereby she works to ensure the company is safe and legal. As Suzanne also qualified as an Engineer and still works with engineers, she has a clear side of her personality that are suited to the ‘Developer’ personality type. This fits with the inventive and collaborative sides of her personality. "

What do I do?

"Suzanne works for a company that designs and develops microchip technology that is used in billions of products globally. The company produces new and innovative designs and it is essential that these designs are registered so that other companies cannot use them without a licence, they do this by registering and managing a patent for the designs. As a Patent Attorney for ARM, Suzanne is responsible for managing their team of in-house attorneys all over the world. She looks after a team of people who work with engineers to protect their ideas, as well as with the marketing team to protect product names from people who may want to copy their ideas. A typical day for Suzanne involves working her team and the engineers to ensure they are creating fantastic new ideas and capturing them properly to protect the company in the long term. To ensure that they stay within budget, Suzanne spends a lot of time looking at the finances. "

How did I get here?

"At school Suzanne studied Maths, Physics and Chemistry at A level before going on to read a degree in Electronics at University. After graduating, Suzanne went on to work as an Engineer for 8 years. It was after this point that she decided she would like a change in career path and decided to work in law. Suzanne went on to train by working in a law firm to become a patent attorney. Working as a patent attorney for a technology company combines her different career paths together. Suzanne demonstrates how you don’t always have to stay in the same field, you can always re train and do something completely new! Suzanne is motivated by learning new things and has always had an interest in new technology. She also has always had a desire to help people and ensure that companies are both safe and legal. "

The life I live

"Suzanne gets up to a lot in her spare time, from being active and doing running, walking, cycling to chilling out and going to the cinema, meeting up with friends, baking and reading! Previously, Suzanne used to play a lot of Football and Lacrosse. There is a lot of opportunity to travel within Suzanne’s job if you’d like to, she has been to Brazil, the USA, China, Japan and all over Europe. In the future Suzanne would love to run her own company. If she was to give on piece of advice she would say to ignore anyone that says it’s not cool or its geeky because when they get older they will be envious of all the cool new technology that you work with and how much money you are earning!
