About Ellie...
Who am I?
"Ellie is a Procurement and Sustainability Manager, responsible for sourcing new ingredients and developing supplier relationships, for a food start-up in London. In her job, Ellie demonstrates the ‘Communicator’ type, as she has to be out-going and communicate well due to the pace that her company moves at and the number of interacting teams that all need to be kept involved and up-to-date. She is also the ‘Manager’ type as she manages her own time and projects and so must be intuitive and extremely organised. She has also had efficiency and resourcefulness drilled her into since she started working at this company, and she has always had an eye for detail which really works well for the ‘Influencer’ type."
What do I do?
"Ellie works for a food start-up in London, running all things sustainability and procurement related, in a new and exciting company that produces vegan and plant based foods and meals for delivery. This involves her doing everything from finding suppliers for new ingredients, buying supplies, visiting suppliers, setting up supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, monitoring waste output and source inputs and driving improvements to her company’s environmental credentials. Day-to-day, Ellie will spend time ordering, chasing suppliers, and tracking budgets and the rest of her time driving changes, building processes and doing research. She really enjoys the responsibility and opportunity to truly change things that could be better - financially, operationally or sustainably. The highlight of her job has been running the process for Aallplants to become a B Corp, a business that meets high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. This is something which Ellie strongly believes in, and her company recently achieved the certification. Well done Ellie!"
How did I get here?
"Ellie was the first ever person from her school to go to a Russell group university! While she was there, she studied Geography and did a dissertation in food sustainability. From there, she worked in a junior role in general sustainability on a starting salary of £18,000. She then went on to become an intern at a company whose core beliefs are around food sustainability. After that, she took on another junior role in sustainability and has previously worked as a Sustainability Projects Assistant in the NHS. Ellie firmly believes that we can un-do the damage done to our environment and that food is the key to doing that!"
The life I live
"Ellie likes going to the gym and running in her spare time. She also enjoys cooking, socialising with friends and being with her family. She regularly travels across the country to visit suppliers, and perhaps one day will have the opportunity to travel further afield to do so! In the future, Ellie would like to be head of sustainability in her company or at another leading, forward-facing food company."
