About Chloe...

Who am I?

"Chloe is a Contract Manager working on the development of offshore wind turbines.Chloe is friendly and collaborative and likes interacting as part of a team and finding solutions to problems, which fits well with the ‘Explorer’ type. She is also logical and good at drafting and reviewing reports, and she wants to make appositive impact on energy policy, so she suits the ‘Influencer’ type too. Chloe often needs to understand what is required between two parties, so she regularly demonstrates the ‘Campaigner’ type."

What do I do?

"Wind Turbines generate electricity without using up our natural resources. As a Wind Turbine Contract Manager, Chloe’s main role is leading the commercial side of the wind turbine projects. She manages all aspects of the project, from ensuring the budget and timelines are kept too, to making sure that the wind turbines are being made according to the contract. She checks the claims and variations in any new requests for turbines, and makes sure everything is progressing on time, so that she and her colleagues can install the wind turbines and start producing electricity.Chloe’s role is usually office-based, though she does sometimes travel to see turbines being assembled. When she is in the office, she has frequent meetings with the rest of the wind turbine team to make sure they all agree on what to do. She also keeps track of the budget and overall progress of the project. "

How did I get here?

"Chloe studied Mechanical Engineering at university and then worked as a Mechanical Engineer for a year in the Houses of Parliament! She then worked in several engineering consultancies doing energy modelling for buildings and looking at possible options for including renewable energy ideas into big developments. She started to work in onshore wind energy in the operations and maintenance department, before moving to offshore construction where she is now. Chloe’s starting salary was £27,000.Every time Chloe sees strong female leaders in her company or in the wider energy industry, it always inspires her to find out how they got to where they are. She thinks it’s great to see that she could one day follow in their footsteps!"

The life I live

"Chloe plays in a local netball team, and she also loves reading and spending time with her friends. She enjoys travelling to new and exciting places around the world and, every so often, has the chance to visit turbine plants across Europe, mostly Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, and Sweden, which she finds really interesting. She has already climbed wind turbines in four different countries! In the future, Chloe would probably like to move into Project Management but she could also have the opportunity to become a more senior Commercial Manager. She would love to work in another country one day!"
