Sometimes people are surprised that I am a STEM qualified person. When people ask me what I do, I love to ask them what they think I do to see what they say!
About Megan...
Who am I?
"Megan is a Product and Partner Executive for MindSphere, a cloud-based platform developed by the digital company Siemens.Megan is imaginative and likes to be creative in her role to try to come up with new ways of doing things, which matches with all three of the ‘Innovator’, ‘Investigator’ and ‘Explorer’ types! She is also friendly and likes to be around other people. She loves working in teams of super-motivated people! This allows her to be a leader, to be creative and to be the face of Siemens to the customer in a way you wouldn't normally get in other roles."
What do I do?
"As Product and Partner Executive, Megan’s job is to work with customers who would like to be partners on the MindSphere cloud-based, ‘Internet of Things’ open platform. MindSphere is an operating system developed by the digital company Siemens, that connects all the machines, technology and physical infrastructure of a company together, allowing that company to gather and access masses of data that will help them to improve their company and products. Megan’s role is to be the point of contact for technical and commercial support when working on projects or providing marketing support for events. She needs to know all about the platform and what's coming next with it. Megan has found that just because you're an engineer, doesn't mean you can't have a customer-facing role.Every day is different for Megan. Some days she is in the office doing project management, on others she might be with customers working out how they can make use of MindSphere in their businesses. Sometimes she visits the Museum of Science and Industry to do volunteering. Megan really loves being able to be creative with her team and with customers. Working with people who are really motivated for the digital future is so inspiring and she always leaves meetings feeling excited for what's to come! "
How did I get here?
"Megan completed an integrated Master’s degree in Sustainable Engineering. This was mainly mechanical engineering, but had a focus on energy systems too.She knew that she needed some industrial experience to supplement her studies and bag a great graduate scheme. She did some research and felt that Siemens was an industry giant that could really take her places during her career. She knew people working there and asked what life was really like there! She liked what she heard and, during her 3rd and 4th year at university, she did a summer industrial placement at Siemens Mechanical Drives. She effectively used it as a 10-week job interview for their graduate scheme! She secured a place on the Siemens Engineering Graduate Scheme in the Digital Factory and Product development division shortly afterwards. She did 2 years on the graduate scheme and then entered her current role, having done a placement in that department during her graduate scheme. Megan’s starting salary was £26,000. The most exciting part of Megan’s job so far has been winning Siemens UK Graduate of the Year 2017! She really felt like all of her hard work had been recognised. Well done Megan, what an accolade at the beginning of your career!"
The life I live
"Megan loves to bake anything and everything and she finds its helps team morale when there are a few baked goodies left over for her team. She has also recently taught herself to knit – she chooses to see at as another type of engineering! Megan also enjoys a bit of leisurely exercise in the form of going to the gym with friends.Megan really feels that opportunities are there for the taking. She is a firm believer that you can't expect these things to be handed to you on a platter – if you want it, you go for it. She could even choose to relocate to a country of her choice with a Siemens office during her career! Megan would love to have a senior position somewhere in the future. She is not sure what that might be at this time, but she is taking each opportunity as they come. You never know what an opportunity might have in store for you!"
