"A key passion for Joanna is environmental science and protecting species and habitats in the UK and abroad. As an Environmental Consultant, Joanna is involved in the coordination of projects – helping to communicate between design teams and environmental discipline teams to ensure the project is adhering to environmental standards. In a typical day, Joanna will attend design meetings with engineers to discuss the project. The discussion will often involve how to make changes to reduce impacts on the environment. One of the most exciting parts of Joanna’s career was working on a survey boat at sea in countries such as Egypt and Romania! In her current role, Joanna also has the opportunity to go on site visits to see the work in progress. "

"Joanna completed an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science and a postgraduate degree in Marine Science. Prior to her current role, she was an environmental scientist for a marine survey company where she conducted offshore habitat and environmental baseline surveys. After this Joanna spent 2 years in Malaysia before moving into her current role at Arcadis. The starting salary for an Environmental Scientist is about £22,000.Whilst Joanna has progressed upwards in her career from a trainee to project manager, she has also moved sideways from working in marine science to terrestrial science. This proves that there is flexibility within companies to explore different avenues – you don’t have to feel restricted! "
